She had been told by a well-meaning relative that she was not strong enough for a semi-automatic, and she believed it for two years.
She was not weak. She was pushing the slide forward with one hand while pulling it back with the other, which is what almost everyone does the first time and which cancels out most of the force you apply. Ten minutes of being shown how to hold the gun close, lock the wrist, and drive with the whole body rather than the fingers, and she was running it herself.
We see some version of this constantly. Someone decides they cannot do this based on one bad experience and a piece of advice from a person who was not paying close attention.
Before you conclude the equipment is wrong for you, let someone watch you use it.
