A Montessori Nido (Italian for “nest”) is a specialized, serene, and secure infant care environment for babies from approximately 2 to 18 months, designed to foster independence, free movement, and exploration in a home-like, “prepared” environment. It focuses on nurturing development through calm surroundings rather than restrictive “container” equipment.

In a Montessori Nido (infant community), repetition is a vital, child-led process where babies repeat actions (like grasping, rolling, or transferring) to build concentration, refine motor skills, and achieve mastery. It is not considered boredom, but rather a self-driven pursuit of security and deep learning that brings immense joy and satisfaction.

Wood polishing in Montessori is a Practical Life activity where children use specialized tools to clean, wax, and shine wooden objects, developing fine motor skills, independence, and concentration. This activity teaches sequence (prepare, polish, buff, clean up), improves hand strength for writing, and provides immediate, satisfying visual feedback.

This week is my favorite week of the year! The children learn so much about Jesus riding the donkey, the last supper, washing disciples feet, Mary pouring the expensive oil on Jesus’ feet, the Cross, the empty tomb and then of course the Resurrection !!!
