Math scores still need improvement!

We know that what gets measured gets improved, but only if we share the data with those who can make improvements- the students. The chart below, shows an example of Math test data displayed annonymously by student. Remember that students want to succeed and help their peers to be successful. There is power in giving students the tools and information necessary to make improvements.

JSA offers training and material designed to engage students and parents in the learning process

Recently, The Education Trust, an advocacy group dedicated to improving equity in education, published a three-series report on the importance of family and community engagement https://bit.ly/4dbEtOT. This series, based on extensive research, reports that when parents and the community participate in a student’s education, all students have higher academic outcomes.

One strategy to strengthen communication between parents and educators described throughout the articles focuses on systemic professional development to train teachers in engagement practices.

Many states and districts are at risk of underspending ESSER III funds. Some districts have even spent less than 10% of their funds.
If districts fail to obligate ESSR funds by the end of September 2024, they will lose them entirely.

In addition, some professional development funds that end in June can’t be carried over to the new fiscal year.

Making connections between continuous classroom improvement and social-emotional learning.

In this example, from a classroom in the Mehlville School District in St. Louis, MO, you’ll see how the teacher uses data to display behavioral improvements and encourages a positive learning climate. She has incorporated both SEL practices and CI process improvement in an age -appropriate way for students to easily participate. Students are encouraged to improve their social skills goal for15 consective days. At the same time, they are using continuous improvement to track their performance and display results. Thanks to Mrs. Kirchhofer for sharing her best practice.
