The coop has been fluffed, the feeders are full, and the feathered welcome committee has been practicing their happy clucks all summer long. 🐥🥚
We can't wait to welcome our amazing Work Study students back for another year of learning, growing, caring for our animals, and making memories together.

Our egg cartons are packed, the chicks are ready, and the chickens have given their final "approval." 😉 Now all we need is YOU!

🐔 COOP REPORT: All is Well!

The chickens wanted to check in and let everyone know... all is good in the coop! 💙🐣

The flock has been staying busy scratching, pecking, dust bathing, and enjoying their summer break while Mrs. Uecker (aka the Chicken Mom 🥰) keeps a close eye on everyone.

But you know what they're REALLY excited about?...

🐝🎉 BIG NEWS... and it's creating quite the BUZZ! 🎉🐝

We are incredibly excited to announce that the NPHS Work Study Apiary is now OFFICIALLY PERMITTED... making North Port High School the FIRST public school in Florida with a permitted apiary! 🏆🍯

This is so much more than a hive. ❤️ It's an opportunity for our amazing students to gain hands-on experience in agriculture, environmental stewardship, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and life skills—all while making a positive impact on our community.

This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the incredible support of our administration, mentors, community partners, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who has believed in our students and our vision. Thank you for helping us make history!

NPHS Work Study and Sarasota County Schools have possibly the only permit for keeping bees on public school property in the state of Florida 🤯

The apiary had its first inspection with the incredible Super Squad - District and Regional Inspectors Iris and Ash.

The apiary passed with flying colors and these bees are filling out their boxes SO quickly.

We are so excited to have this partnerships with the state, district, county, city, schools, 4H, Girl Scouts, and so many others!

💔 Our coop is a little quieter this morning…
We lost our beloved, very opinionated Karhen this morning, and our hearts are hurting. 😢🐔
She wasn’t just a chicken—she was a personality. She always had something to say, made sure her opinion was heard, and brought so much character and life to the coop.
It’s going to feel so sad and quiet out there without her little clucks, complaints, and commentary. 💔 The coop just won’t be the same without our sweet, sassy girl.
Fly high, Karhen. 🌈🐔 You were loved more than you could ever know, and you will be so deeply missed. 💕
