Ladybug Crossing Ladybug Crossing is an active participant in Nebraska Step Up to Quality! We strive to provide high We provide this care through a strong consistent staff.

Ladybug Crossing Early Learning Center has been serving North Platte families since November of 2012 under current owners Nick and Chantel Tonkinson. We are a child-care center committed to providing high quality early learning experiences for children aged birth -12 years old. Our lead teachers have been with our center a minimum of three years. Consistency of staff enables the children to form a bond and sense of trust with our staff. Our staff are all trained in the Pyramid Model which has an emphasis on the social emotional development of each individual child. Our center is also an active participant in Step Up to Quality, Nebraska’s childcare quality rating system. We focus on providing a supportive environment through developmentally appropriate curriculum in each classroom. Children are taught expectations and routines through a consistent daily schedule that they are a part of planning each day. Our classrooms are inviting and offer multiple opportunities to learn new skills and use acquired skills through play-based learning. Play based learning is based on the concept that children choose what to explore that day and have a wide variety of items available to them to experiment with. We also believe in providing a nurturing environment where children are loved and respected. In May of 2020, we were excited to enter into a partnership agreement with North Platte Public Schools. This enabled us to expand our capacity and relocate to Osgood Elementary School. We are hoping that this will assist with transportation issues families utilizing the Osgood Preschool class may have when school starts in the fall.

Three mornings of Step Up to Quality rating observations under our belt! We have been proud participants in this program since before COVID hit the world!
We finally submitted for our rating. One step left in the process before we find out where we scored. But I am incredibly honored to have this team around me.
We have had adversity, personal tragedies, staff turnover in key areas of our program and learning to move forward when outside rumors and noise have attempted to disrupt all of our hard work.
Through it all, we rise stronger and more fierce than ever before. July marks 14 years of serving this community and these families as the owner of Ladybug Crossing and we intend to be here serving for many, many more!
