🎭A little theatre wow moment: Three years ago, I thought it would be fun to have a Broadway actor announce our spring musical (Beauty & the Beast) so I ordered a Cameo from Joshua Henry. He played Gaston in the televised 30th Celebration of B&TB (with Josh Groban, H.E.R., Martin Short, Rita Moreno, Shania Twain) and has credits such as Aaron Burr in the first tour of Hamilton, Rapunzel’s Prince in the revival of Into the Woods, In the Heights, Bring It On, and Carousel, and many more.

Most recently, he won his first Tony Award 🏆🎭 as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in the revival of Ragtime, one of my favorite all-time musicals (2nd video, courtesy of Lincoln Center).

I’ll never forget the sweet words of encouragement he gave to my students 💙 In one of his interviews, he recounts the music teacher who saw his talent and gave him free lessons. This is what music education is about! Sometime kids don’t know the power and talent they possess until someone encourages them. It’s important to be the teacher who encourages 💙🎼

Highlights from our final song at the North Myrtle Beach Performing Arts Picnic Concert of 2026. Our band, orchestra, and chorus came together to perform something special. The song “For Good” from Wicked is a perfect song to honor our graduates. With the lyrics, “You’ll be with me, like a handprint on my heart,” and “I’ve been changed for the better, because I knew you,” our graduates have changed our lives as educators and we will always remember the difference you made in our younger students’ lives.
