Marshall Elementary

Marshall Elementary Marshall Elementary is the largest elementary school in Marysville with close to 700 students.

We have Kindergarten through fifth grade general education programs. In addition, Marshall contains four developmental preschool classes and three self-contained intellectually disabled classrooms to meet the special needs of our students. Marshall also houses the Marysville Cooperative Educational Partnership program. Marshall is unique in that we house three very individual programs, but work co

llaboratively for each and every student. At Marshall, we believe that all children can learn to their individual potential. At Marshall, we use a Balanced Literacy approach to teaching reading and writing. Through a reading workshop approach, students receive daily instruction in comprehension, word work, and fluency as well as exposure to a variety of literary genres from our Reading Units of Study. Daily lessons are taught through our Writing Units of Study, which allows for exposure to a wide variety of genres and purpose for writing. Special emphasis is placed on transferable skills necessary for students to be academically successful, independent readers and writers of a wide variety of text. At Marshall Elementary we teach all students to be critical math thinkers and problem solvers. The curriculum that is used to instruct is Everyday Math, which exposes students at the early grades to many math concepts and builds in complexity for mastery as they move up in grade levels. Students reinforce their conceptual understanding and accuracy of their math knowledge through cooperative games built into the units. In addition, Marshall has been participating in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) with a focus on literacy. Our PLC’s have been exploring and implementing the Common Core State Standards and collaboratively working in data teams to share in strategies, look at student assessment and make instructional decisions for the most effective student learning.
