Well, it has been about a month since the end of the 2021-2022 season and I figure it's about time to reflect on what was a really really fun three and a half months! Our original team goal was to take 20+ athletes to the state tournament and place in the top 3 as a team. Well, we had 19+2 alternates make it to the tournament. We had a rough last week of practice with a couple injuries and one illness keeping three people out of the qualifying tournament. With those three individuals we absolutely would have qualified 22+2, but it is what it is. I also felt like we may have peaked just a bit early and not wrestled our absolute best at state. That's not to say we didn't have a good tournament. In fact, some of our kids exceeded expectations! Overall, even though we didn't place as high as I had anticipated (an injury to our varsity 106 pounder eliminated 20+ potential team points), I was still happy with our performance. The real silver lining is we have 15 of these state qualifiers returning to the team next season! In addition, three (four if you include our varsity 106) are returning state placers and one of those is a sophomore state champion! Yes, we are making progress, and next year our goal as a team needs to be compete for a state championship. That goal can only be achieved if you first believe it can be and I certainly believe we have it in us. I'm ready for the 2022-2023 season already! We believe!

We are two weeks away from the beginning of the 2021-2022 wrestling season and I don't think I can be any more excited than I am! We lost three state finalists and a couple other state qualifiers to graduation this past year, so I thought this year would be a bit of a rebuilding year. I was wrong! Our athletes have been training hard in the off season AND we have four new move-ins that will immediately have a positive impact on our program. One is from a Idaho state champion team of South Fremont. He placed fourth in the state tournament last year. Another is from Idaho and also qualified for the state tournament as a freshman 220 pounder. Finally, we have two brothers from Juab. Both studs. Add them to the line-up and we have basically re-loaded and are ready to go! It's gonna be a season to remember, folks!

Fun fact: Preseason 4A Utah state rankings have been released and Green Canyon has NINE athletes ranked in the top 6 in their respective weight classes.

Wrestling season is almost HERE! The Green Canyon Juniors wrestling club will begin Monday, November 8th at 5:30. Practices will run from 5:30-7:00 p.m. on M,W, and TH. You can register at northloganrec.org now. Cost is $75.00. We hope to see you in practice!

We invite ALL wrestlers in the valley to come to our open gyms on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-6:30. If you are not high school age (younger), bring someone your size with whom you can practice! Everyone is welcome!
