I wanted to share an update on the conditions around NLC, including our parking lot, entrances, and Maumelle Blvd.

While the parking lot itself has been plowed, the three entrance ramps were not. After city plows came through, they pushed additional snow back onto NLC’s entrances, which has made them extremely difficult to access. At this time, unless you have 4WD, it is nearly impossible to enter safely.

We’re hopeful that today’s warmer temperatures will help melt some of this; however, refreezing tonight brings continued concern for black ice — both in the parking lot and on the ramps. Maumelle Blvd and many nearby neighborhood streets are also still challenging to navigate without 4WD.

We will continue to keep you updated on conditions, and alert you if tomorrow becomes another closure.

Due to hazardous road conditions, we will be closed again tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28th. While major highways are clear, Maumelle Blvd remains extremely icy, and many surrounding roads are still unsafe without four-wheel drive.

With refreezing expected again tonight, we want to continue prioritizing the safety of our staff, students, and families. Please know this decision is never made lightly! Our staff truly miss your children and are more than ready to be back together.

I will update you tomorrow regarding our status for Thursday.

Due to inclement weather, LLA GLR will be closed on Monday, January 26. We will continue to monitor road conditions and provide an update tomorrow regarding the status of school on Tuesday! Stay safe and stay warm!!

Day 2 of being snowed in🥶

Need an activity? Try frozen bubbles!!❄️🫧
Supplies Needed:

1 cup hot water
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 tablespoon glycerin (can substitute honey 1:1 ratio)
½ tablespoon corn syrup (w/o corn syrup, add extra honey)
5 tablespoons dish soap
Jar with lid
Straws
Measuring cups and spoons

Directions:

Fill a mason jar with 1 cup of hot water (hottest tap water).
Add 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar to the hot water and mix well until dissolved.
Add 1 tablespoon glycerin and 1/2 tablespoon of corn syrup. Mix well (or add your honey and mix until dissolved).
Add 5 tablespoons dish soap and gently mix.
Put a lid on the jar and place the bubble solution in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours to chill.
Take your bubble solution and straws outside and have fun watching them freeze!
