"Annie Savage is a star, great teacher, author and almost-done doctoral student."-Bob Phillips

Have you ever wanted to play your stringed instrument (confidently and painlessly) by ear? Are you one of us who thinks…I’ll never have the time to do this? Maybe can’t find a local fiddle teacher who teaches how to play in a jam? Or someone who wants to nail this stuff down before showing up to a live jam? Well…this class is for YOU! Study with Annie Savage- seasoned ASTA clinician, acclaimed “fiddle expert” (No Depression), and IBMA Mentor of the Year (2020).

When? Our Free Strings Method class will meet over 8 Monday nights: Dec 5, 12, 19, 26 and Jan 2, 9, 16, and 23 via Zoom 7-8pm CT.

Who? All string players at all levels, all ages, and all stripes: violins, violas, cellos, and basses.

What? We will be taking a stroll through the Free Strings Method: Bluegrass and Blues Module…in addition to the weekly group classes with Annie…you will receive a year long subscription to the Free Strings Method so that you can really nail down these skills (and pass them on!) in the privacy of your own home or studio!

How? Registration is open NOW. Registration is first come first serve. Pay class registration of $150 to annie-savage-2@venmo or [email protected] at Paypal. You will then receive instructions to your inbox for access to the curriculum (www.free-strings.com) and a zoom invite for lessons. Yes. It’s that easy.

Okay…how much? $179.99. $150 for the lessons (due upon sign up) and $29.99 (due before the first class) for the curriculum and class materials. That’s a DEAL! 2 months of intensive instruction, a YEAR membership to one of the most comprehensive jamming curriculums there is and the option for notation and private consultation the whole way!

This one’s on us! Your students will love the comprehensive and easy to deliver instruction along with the jam alongs that help them hone their improvisational skills at home or in the classroom…and the most competitive notation package on the market!

Howdy friends! I am preparing to release my first solo album (after 16 studio albums!) and would love to ask for your support...this project includes the CD and the effort to license these great songs for use in public school orchestra programs...play nice and be free! Thanks to Greg Blake and Tracy Lynn for their contribution! (And Kevin Slick for his help too!)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS! Why bluegrass matters...in the public school

As string educators, we must be aware of more than a few changing realities in both the classroom and the job market that our enthusiastic, diverse and technology driven students will pour into. Here are three critical shifts in the world of string playing that we should consider:

Core Values

I remember the first time I realized that I was a teacher. I was a college student. (Terrifying). I was sitting with a little guy named Alex. Alex had super spiky hair, freckles across his little button nose, dark eyes that glistened with curiosity. He smiled a lot. He was extremely shy but quick to...

Why Jamming?

It is based the observation that, as an orchestra director, my students often seemed to relish the after-concert reward time more than the concert itself. A long-standing tradition in my own orchestra programs has been the reception, the visit to Chili’s or the ice cream that follows the big product...
