It’s World Piano Day today (held on the 88th day of the year because of the number of keys on the instrument)!!! Did you know…

🎹The piano was invented a little over 300 years ago by Venetian Bartolomeo Cristofori

🎹 A grand piano has around 12,000 parts

🎹 It was originally called a fortepiano or pianoforte (piano is the Italian word for ‘soft’, and ‘forte’ is loud)

🎹 Predecessors to the piano were clavichords, clavicytheriums, geigenwerks, spinets, harpsichords, virginals, and of course organs, going all the way back to the late 3rd century BCE with the hydraulis!!

One of my favorite very cool living breathing pianist and composer is Jon Schmidt of The Piano Guys.
I had a chance to meet him years back, and students still ask for this incredible piano song he wrote!!…
