You can turn your Dollar Tree snowflakes into a fun math activity using dominoes! This is a go to every single year. I write numbers on them (0-12) and set out a tray of dominoes. I love this particular set of foam dominoes. Kiddos count the dots and place their domino on the correct snowflake. If you don’t have the foam snowflakes, you could easily cut some out or draw them on butcher paper

Year to year, this wooden snowflake board from makes a very popular center. I set out a cup of dyed chick peas and my students place them along the lines of the snowflake to count and make patterns, all the while strengthening their fine motor. Sometimes I add dice so they can roll and count. The snowflake board is also fun to add to a sensory bin, with dry fillers of course. We love it in a bin of colored beans or chick peas.

Snowman directed drawings but pair them with a book and activity…We love to read How to Catch a Snowman and then talk about how we would try and catch our own snowman. Then, we make our directed drawings. To do these, I sit across from a few kiddos at a time and demonstrate as we go. This means I have to draw mine upside down. We start by drawing one circle, then another one, and then the third one. We draw a line and a square for a hat, a tiny triangle for the nose, then dots for the eyes and mouth. Anything else they want to add is up to them. I do let them use permanent marker so when they paint the background it doesn’t bleed. This printable is from my winter writing center.

Happy 2024! Tell me your goals for this year. I love getting inspiration from you all.🩵 I’m still on break this week and have spent the morning putting some of my goals for the year in writing in my favorite planner. Yes, I need a paper planner, I don’t do well with digital. I’ve got some pretty big goals and some pretty big ideas and I plan to crush them all!

Teacher on break 🎄🎅🏻 As of 1:00 EST, I will finally be on Christmas break, and I can’t think of another year I’ve been more ready. Give me all the coffee, Christmas cookies, cozy time by my tree, and time home with my family, plus a quick visit to see Mickey!

A themed letter tray is probably my favorite way to practice letter recognition and writing. Grab a snowflake bowl and snowman erasers . Fill the snowflake bowl with letters. I’ve pulled out all the letter beads in shades of blue and white. I grabbed colored pencils in shades of blue and put the snowmen erasers on top to make snowman pencils. Students just pick a letter at a time, identify it, and write it. They keep this up until their paper is filled with letters.
