📣Meet your camp counselors!!

📚Ms. Beth is Acorn’s reading specialist. She works with kiddos in kindergarten through 5th grade to help strengthen their phonemic awareness and phonics skills through hands on multisensory activities. Keep an eye out for some fun reading games this week at camp! 🏕️

🙌Ms. Meg (Meagan David) is one of Acorn’s Occupational Therapist. She works with children on building social skills, emotional and physical regulation, sensory strategies, and fine motor skills. Get ready for some fun activities, friends, movement, sensory games, and challenges that help kiddos feel confident, connected, and ready to learn! 🏕️

🗣️Ms. Sabrina is one of Acorn’s speech language pathologists! She works with children on building communication skills, speech sounds, language development, social communication, and finding their voice through verbal speech and AAC. Through play-based activities and engaging experiences, Ms. Sabrina helps kids express their ideas, connect with others, and discover just how powerful their communication can be! 🏕️

Day 2 of Acorn Camp! 🏕️

Today our campers used some fun multisensory tools to help strengthen their sound knowledge. They used magic sand to write letters, magnetic tiles to spell, worked on writing their names with proper letter formation, and played a fun vowel game to strength those short vowel sounds! 📚

They all did amazing work while having fun! 🥳

Seven years of growing together! 🌳✨

Seven years ago, Acorn Therapy Solutions began with just one therapist traveling from house to house to support 5 to 7 dedicated families in their homes. From those humble, heartfelt beginnings, we grew into our very first single office—and today, we are so proud to welcome families into our expanded facility featuring two treatment rooms, including a large sensory and play space!

As we celebrate our 7th anniversary, we are filled with deep gratitude for every milestone along the way. From adding quiet therapy environments to launching specialized care in feeding, childhood apraxia of speech, literacy (including dyslexia support), and social skill development—every step forward has been about helping our kiddos move, eat, speak, and thrive with confidence. Next week, we’re even kicking off our very first Social Summer Camp! 🗣️🏕️

To our amazing families: Thank you for opening your homes and hearts to us over the years and trusting us with your children’s growth. Watching them find their voices and reach big wins is the absolute greatest privilege of our work.

At Acorn Therapy Solutions, we believe that supporting individuals means supporting families, too. We're excited to share this wonderful community resource from the University of Rhode Island, offering 🌟FREE🌟 respite events for children and adults with disabilities and special healthcare needs.

These events provide participants with engaging activities and one-on-one supervision while giving caregivers a well-deserved opportunity to rest, recharge, or attend to other responsibilities.

🖍️ Out of the Box, Inside the Lines! 🖍️

Ever wonder why some kids struggle to write their letters, even after seeing them a hundred times? Sometimes, looking just isn't enough—they need to feel it!

In this video, we're using one of our favorite outside-the-box hacks: Raised Borders for Letter Formation. 🅰️✨

By creating a physical, raised boundary (you can easily do this at home with puffy paint or hot glue!), we provide incredible visual and tactile cues. When a child's marker bumps against the edge, their brain receives a physical reminder of where the line should go.

This multisensory feedback builds muscle memory, increases confidence, and turns a frustrating task into a fun, sensory-friendly game.

Why is this so important? When kids can physically feel the shape of a letter, it accelerates their letter recognition and writing skills—a critical stepping stone for early reading, literacy, and overall fine motor and communication skills! 📚🗣️
