A Message from Our President, Whitney McCaulley:
Finals season has arrived, and I want to assure you all that we are here to provide support in every way possible. Whether you need a quiet space to study, a pep talk, help with outlining, or simply a reminder to take care of yourself during this time period, I want to extend a helping hand as this is a stressful time of the year.
One strategy that has been particularly effective for me in managing time and maintaining balance during finals, is utilizing the “Focus To-Do” app. I set my study time for 45 mins to an hour and then take a 10-15 minute break in between my study time, so that I do not feel too overwhelmed or burnt out too quickly. I have found that timing my studying helps with retention, focus, and gives me something to look forward to while I am studying.
Know yourself. If group studying does not work for you, do not feel forced to study in a group all the time. Group studying has worked tremendously for me, but I only benefit when I have taken the time to study the material firsthand by myself. Therefore, when I study in the group, I am able to retain the information because I am either reviewing the information, asking questions, and/or helping others. It is okay to say no, but do not isolate yourself entirely.
Remember, you are more than capable, and you belong here! All of your hard work will pay off! Stay focused, take breaks when needed, EAT AND SLEEP, and do not hesitate to ask for guidance. Send us an email, DM or GroupMe message if you would like to vent, ask for help, or access to the outlining bank.
