This week, many of our elementary school teachers participated in Switch and Read. 📚 In this program, created by our Special Projects Team, teachers traded classrooms and chose a read-aloud to share with students. This was such a great opportunity for our community to get to know each other even better and it totally energized and excited our kids! 📕
We have a HUGE announcement over here at the elementary school! Our wonderful PTO has raised the funds for a brand new nature playground! Students had the opportunity to brainstorm ideas for the new set-up this month and we have taken as many of their thoughts as possible into account during the planning process. We’ve met with the building crew and can’t wait to enjoy this innovative new space in the 2022-2023 school year.
Drop a 😁 in the comments if you’re still smiling about the Lord’s provision during our annual Gala!

Happy ! 🙌🏼 This week at the elementary school, we welcome back the beloved Praise Moms for chapel. Students loved their high energy time of praise. Then, Pastor YoungJae Lee shared a message based on John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” What a great morning of worship!

We can’t wait to spend time with our students again this week! Right before break, Mrs. Veenstra went all in for an Easter-themed class: students were very eggcited for Phys Ed. They opened eggs to reveal their eggsercize. They strived for eggsellence with each activity before eggshaling and eggsiting the gym. 🤪🐣
Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply, Alleluia!
Love's redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!
The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Last week, elementary school students used their coding skills to program Sphero robots to roll, delay, change colors, and make sounds. STEAM teacher Kelsi Bailey and tech integrator Meredith Kohlbrenner teamed up to teach the students how to program Sphero's heading angle, speed, and duration. Students combined computer science and math concepts to get the highest score possible on the Sphero dart board and navigate through a maze. Go STEAM TEAM!
Last week, we took some time to learn about Ukraine and what is happening there currently.
Students had a visit from our principal, Mrs. Bottge and our third grade paraprofessional, Lydia Gorter who has previously worked as a missionary in Ukraine. Students learned what every day life in Ukraine is like, what their flag symbolizes (blue for the sky and yellow for fields of wheat), and an age-appropriate lesson on what is happening now.
Students were invited to pray for Ukrainian people and other countries who can help, as well as the leaders involved in the conflict.
Each child received a bracelet in the colors of the Ukrainian flag with a reminder to PRAY for Ukraine. Inside the bracelet are the words “God is in control.”
We are currently supporting the relief work of Convoy of Hope and Mission to the World in Ukraine. If you would like to contribute with a cash donation, you may send it with your child when we return from Spring Break. 🇺🇦
Chick-fil-A Leadership Academy, advised by HS teacher Dawn Heerema, met yesterday to finalize plans for a major fundraiser event. The event, Day at the Rock, will occur May 22 at 1 p.m. at Rockpoint Community Church.
Chick-fil-A challenged the students to fundraise for a non-profit, and the group chose Hope Christian Services, formerly known as Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat. The event will include a fair for residents of Hope Christian Services as well as community children, followed by a concert.
Ramsey Chick-fil-A, and EC parents and franchise owners the Cohen family, have generously sponsored the leadership academy this year. In addition, EC was awarded a $750 grant from Chick-fil-A headquarters to orchestrate the upcoming event.
ECHS Commissioning Chapel: Partnering with Touch the World, a team of Eastern Christian students will travel to Lynch, Kentucky during spring break, working alongside Heritage Ministries doing construction projects and community outreach.
Emergence youth leader Sam Kachler and ECHS Bible teacher Stephen Bailey will be leading this year's team.

This we are so excited to celebrate our second graders!
The entire grade level worked so hard to bring the elementary school their Easter chapel. With beautiful choral songs and a presentation filled with scripture and the message of Easter, the program was truly a blessing to our community.
GREAT JOB SECOND GRADE! ✝️
Today was our weekly Upper Elementary & Middle School chapel. It featured student led praise, a message from pastor Ryan Baitzel reminding us of Christ’s substitution for us and the reason we celebrate Easter. Our 4th grade students shared a final song with the school using their recorders. It was great to gather as an entire campus community to worship our Savior!

We believe that science should be hands-on, so our curriculum includes tons of experiments. 🧑🏼🔬👩🏾🔬Last week, third graders did an experiment modeling pollination between flowers! They learned about the important role bees play in the pollination of plants.
Our second zoo-themed post of the day comes from our second grade field trip today!
The second graders had the chance to visit the Turtle Back Zoo and wow, did they have a great day! From sting rays to giraffes to lions, it was a field trip to remember. They were especially excited to spot an [EC] eagle! 🦅 And our bus drivers even got a train ride. 😉
Today, we are excited to show you some zoo-themed posts from the elementary school!
During the month of March, our Pre-K 3 class has been learning about the zoo. Since young children learn best through play, our preschool teachers strategically imbed student learning objectives into students' play. If you can see past their adorable faces, you'll see children growing fine motor muscles, building social skills, and developing math and literacy competencies.
WOW!!! Thank you to everyone who supported our elementary school’s efforts to raise funds for @stjude through our annual Math-A-Thon. Through the efforts of our students and their supporters, we were able to raise $10,597! Way to support our core value of SERVING OTHERS. 💛💙
