Friends Academy A coeducational independent day school on 65 acres in North Dartmouth, MA for students in Early Childhood through Grade 8.

Friends Academy is a coeducational, independent day school in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts serving students in Early Childhood through Grade 8 with an inquiry-based academic curriculum that both challenges and encourages - set within a respectful and supportive community that sees and cares about each individual. The mission of Friends Academy is to provide each student with an educational foundation that will instill the academic knowledge, skills, and understanding; responsible citizenship; respect for diversity and differences; and sense of well-being needed for a lifetime of learning and personal growth. From our play-based Early Childhood at the Farmhouse, to the individual guidance Middle School students receive when choosing a secondary school, Friends Academy is a school where students and teachers build strong relationships with one another. In intentionally small classes, amid a beautiful 65-acre campus, our talented and dedicated faculty shape teachable moments that repeatedly demonstrate that there are many ways to learn, and that questions are just as important as answers.

During her share at this week's All-School Meeting, Mrs. Spinney told us that her very first group of FA fourth graders (from the 2017-18 school year) just started college this fall!

So we thought we'd check in with FA's Class of 2022 to see where these former Falcons have flown off to β€” and throw back to a few fourth grade memories from 10 years ago πŸ””πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ“πŸ›οΈ

The Get Outside for FA Challenge returns this month! 🌿 πŸ₯Ύ

All through October β€” every mile that our community walks, runs, bikes, swims, or paddles adds up. An anonymous donor has pledged to contribute $1 per mile (up to $10,000) to the Friends Academy Fund! Can you help us reach 10,000 miles?πŸšΆπŸƒβ€ πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ πŸŠπŸš£β€β™‚

Participating in the challenge is simple:
πŸ‘‰ Put on your FA gear and head outdoorsβ€”knowing every step helps support our school.
πŸ‘‰ Share your total mileage and a photo from your adventure!

Sixth grade science was looking for a few extra hands to assist in the garden last week....thankfully, the perfect helpers were close by!

Farmhouse students got to work with their Middle School friends to harvest radishes and green onions 🫜🫜 all of which were donated to a local food pantry to help those in need.

Eighth grade began their final year at FA together with a longtime tradition: Outside the Classroom Week at Chewonki, πŸ›Άβ›Ί learning and bonding during a 4-day, 3-night saltwater canoeing and camping adventure along Maine's coastline.

The Chewonki trip has been a Middle School rite of passage at FA since the 1980s. Alumni β€” share in the comments below ⬇️ a memory from your own Chewonki experience!

The sound of the bell πŸ”” means back to school!

Did you know? We call it the "Morgan Street Bell" because it came from Friends Academy's previous campus in downtown New Bedford when we moved to Dartmouth in 1949. According to school records, this bell was put into place on our original County Street campus "sometime in the late 1820s" β€” making it approximately 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ years old now ‼️

The Morgan Street Bell is rung ceremonially to mark the beginning and end of each school year...but only FA alumni are allowed to do the honors! Thanks to our very own Mrs. Peckham (Farmhouse teacher and Class of 1986 graduate) for ringing in the new year at our first All-School Meeting.
