Learn more about course offerings for Spring 2025 in the Professional Writing & Communication MA program!

ENL 641 - Technical and Scientific Journalism helps professional writers and communicators hone their skills in effectively conveying disciplinary or specialized work into terms that are useful and compelling to the public.

The range of applications for science writing or explaining technical subjects are unified in one particular aspect: they all target audiences who are reading to learn, or attempt to spur audiences into a learning activity on the way toward some other action.

Interested in developing these skills? Enroll in ENL 641 today! Students may focus their work for journalism, but other applications (education, tech comm, grants writing, public information/relations, etc.) which require describing technical subjects to non-technical audiences are also welcome. Students will also be doing multimodal productions in this work, including posts, podcasts, and visuals.

We are so happy to announce this year's recipient of the Jenni Baker Scholarship: Emma Konn, who will work with 's journal, Temper. Emma brings passion for writing and publishing to her role as editor, exemplifying the creative energy and leadership Jenni brought to the program.

Jenni found no higher joy than a gathering of like-minded creators. Her ability to inspire, teach, and lead others toward their own artistic talents touched lives worldwide. Her own writing and artwork, like her life, transformed the everyday into the extraordinary.

Thank you to Emma for your hard work and leadership with Temper and MPWC!
