Today’s theme for AmeriCorps Week is Alumni Day.

Over 1.2 million members have served with AmeriCorps since the program’s inception in 1993.

Here at Lynn Camp High School, we are lucky enough to have Kentucky College Coach alumni Sabrina Shepherd. Sabrina served with AmeriCorps from 2019-2021. She is now a college success coach with Partners for Rural Impact. Her AmeriCorps service allowed her to pursue further education in accounting after her service. This has opened doors for positions in payroll and tax preparation!

Thank you for your service, Sabrina! We appreciate all you have done and continue to do for our community!

Today’s theme for AmeriCorps Week is “Why Do I Serve?”

There are many reasons why AmeriCorps members choose to serve, including passion for community service and their community, career development, educational development, and more.

For me, it’s the fact that I can serve in my hometown and my former high school. I really feel connected to the service I’m doing 🙂

Happy AmeriCorps Week -- Today's theme is the History of National Service.

"National service, I hope and pray, will help us to strengthen the cords that bind us together as a people, will help us to remember in the quiet of every night that what each of us can become is to some extent determined by whether all of us can become what God meant us to be."
President Bill Clinton Remarks on Signing the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993, 1993 Public Papers 1543

In September 1993, President Bill Clinton signed the National and Community Service Trust Act of 1993 "to establish a Corporation for National Service, enhance opportunities for national service, and provide national service educational awards to persons participating in such service."

Monday, November 14, we will be having our 1st Annual FAFSA Parent Night from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Our KHEAA Outreach Counselor, Emily Bowman, will be in attendance to help parents and seniors complete their FAFSA form. We are working hard to get FAFSAs done for as many seniors as possible. Colleges, trade schools, and even some apprenticeships and internships require the student to complete the FAFSA, and we want our seniors to have as many options as possible after graduation.

We will be serving chili and there will be a grilled cheese bar set up with different breads, cheeses, and toppings! We will also have chips, cookies, and drinks. All of this is free for all LCHS seniors and their families who are in attendance.

We hope to see you there :)

SENIORS REMEMBER: FAFSA opens October 1st.

If you want to get ahead of the game, you can come to me for help creating your FSA ID. That way you are ready when FAFSA opens.

If you need more help, we are hosting a FAFSA event on October 20th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. KHEAA's College Info Roadshow bus will be on campus to act as a mobile lab for students and KHEAA Coordinator Kevin Wilson will be here to offer his FAFSA expertise.
