We are 5 days away from the start of our 4-week wool braiding workshop. Learn the art and skill of braiding wool rugs. No experience necessary.

This class meets Monday afternoons and includes materials, you need only bring a simple sewing kit (needle, thread, scissors).

Did you know, the American Library Association documented 487 attempts to censor books at libraries, schools, and universities in 2025. The reasons most commonly cited for censorship were false claims of illegal obscenity for minors; inclusion of LGBTQIA+ representation; covering topics of race, racism, social justice, and diversity; and presenting political or religious views with which the challengers disagreed. Of the 4,235 unique titles that were challenged or banned in 2025, here are the top 11 most frequently targeted books.

Follow to learn more about. Today, Oct 4, marks the start of Banned Books Week 2026. Banned Books Week was launched by the American Library Association in 1982 to draw attention to the harms of censorship and highlight the value of free and open access to information. The ALA maintains a list of challenged books as reported in the media and by teachers and librarians.

Three centuries, one newspaper. 📰

In 1725, colonial militia and the Pequawket Abenaki fought a battle at Lovewell's Pond in Fryeburg. One hundred years later, according to The Reporter, Enoch Lincoln read a short original poem at the anniversary. The next year, he was elected Governor of Maine.

Lincoln lived in Fryeburg as a young lawyer and wrote "The Village," a poem set in the town. He's often called Maine's first poet.

On this day in 1829, he died in office in Augusta at age 40, the first Maine governor to do so. He was laid to rest in a granite tomb across from the State House. When it was opened in the late 1980s, it was empty. His remains have never been found.

Come enjoy some delicious pizza and raise money for One Book One Valley at Flatbread Company, North Conway on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 from 4- 9 pm. A portion of each order, both eat-in and take-out, will be donated to the program.

One Book One Valley is a community read program for the Mount Washington Valley area, similar to others offered around the country, and was brought to life by Conway Public Library’s Olga Morrill, who organized a group of librarians and book loving community members 20 years ago. Its mission is to strengthen community ties and promote literacy through reading and discussing a book with a theme that resonates locally. In order to enrich the book discussion experience, One Book One Valley organizers also plan an author visit and programs that relate to the book in some way.

The 2026 read is "Spectacular Things" by Beck Dorey Stein. Learn more at onebookonevalley.org/
