From Mary Montero (@‌teachingwithamountainview on Instagram): 👀 A look back at some of my very favorite and ESSENTIAL lessons about the difference between making literal observations and inferences!

I consider this one of my must-do lessons at the beginning of each year to prepare students for the challenge of doing the very same kind of thinking while they are reading. 📌

We begin by talking about the difference between a literal observation and the inferences we make based on those observations (and our prior knowledge), then we totally dissect a picture using those observations and inferences. We return to this lesson throughout the year, and my students get giddy each time they see a new picture show up!

This lesson is so fun, engaging, and it really solidifies an understanding of the difference between a literal observation and an inferential observation.
