Last night MMA celebrated our Seniors with an awards ceremony highlighting all their achievements. Such a dedicated and motivated group of young adults! You all are unstoppable!
Ashanti Ray, everybody!!! We are so proud of you and your accomplishments. The sky is not even the limit with Ashanti! Congratulations!!!
For the first time in Military Magnet Academy - MMA history, a student received her associate degree from Trident Technical College just a few weeks prior to high school graduation.
Ashanti Ray has been working toward this goal since seventh grade when she started taking high school classes. She earned her associate's in Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship, which Ray said will help her get a head start on one of her careers as an entrepreneur.
She has big dreams and plans to also become an FBI agent, a lawyer, and the President of the United States – in that order.

Chef Kim’s Culinary class was treated to an incredible cooking class led by Chef Bintou N’Daw Young. Our students learned how to make Nigerian dishes of Fufu and Egusi and it was absolutely delicious! Chef Bintou N’Daw Young owns and operates Bintu Atelier, a West African restaurant in downtown Charleston. Trust us, the food there will be phenomenal! Thank you for coming and sharing your talents with us at MMA!

Congratulations to the Military Magnet Academy 2023-2024 TEALS Teaching Team that has been selected as the recipient of the TEALS Founder’s Award!!! ABSOLUTE ROCK STARS!
In celebration of the 10-year milestone of the TEALS Program, the TEALS Founder's Award was established in 2019. The award is presented annually to a TEALS partner high school and teaching team that has gone above and beyond in building and growing a sustainable, diverse, and inclusive computer science program.
In addition to being honored with the Founder’s Award designation, awardees will receive a commemorative trophy/plaque. The Founder’s Award also comes with a $1,000 contribution to the school via a PTSA, school foundation, or other 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliated with the school. Recipients are nominated and selected by staff members of the TEALS team.
By becoming a Microsoft TEALS school in 2021, Principal, Dr. Robert Perrineau and teacher, Sgt. Carla Ferrette-Clark, led the way. After a few short years with TEALS, Military Magnet Academy no longer has just CS classes but has grown to have a CS pathway. Starting with an Intro to CS class in 2021, and adding Cybersecurity in 2023, Sgt. Clark also runs several programs that serve as recruitment for the pathway.
Thank you to all those who served! Happy Memorial Day. Be safe and see you back at school on Tuesday, May 28th! 🦅🇺🇸
