All smiles for the new joggling board! 🙌

Thanks to the Joggle Factory for such a well-made piece of equipment. Joggling boards are a local creation, and people say the first one ever was made in 1803 in Sumter, SC by Cleland Klinlock for his sister, Mary, who suffered from rheumatism. Once one person sat on one, everyone wanted one! They fell out of style when lumber prices rose during WWII. The Joggle Factory has had a hand in bringing back this historic rocking bench and does so in a wonderfully sustainable and community oriented way- utilizing only local yellow pine, replanting trees for every one they cut down, and employing the help of the SC Vocational Rehab Program to keep up with orders Check them out!

While kindy rests, so does their playground. 🛝

Kindergarteners in our mixed-age program spend multiple hours outside every morning playing, exploring, learning, and experiencing the natural world. During the hottest parts of the day, they eat lunch and rest- a welcome exhale after a big morning in breath.

Rising first graders start the year at the Acorn School with the Rose Ceremony. It is a short, informal, yet meaningful ceremony where the new first graders take a rose from their previous kindergarten teacher, cross the Rainbow Bridge, and hand it to their new first grade teacher.
