Wednesday 1/12 at 630pm is Student out choreography showcase. Students from both middle and high school choreographed these dances.

Thursday 1/13 at 630. Senior thesis. These dancers created dances based on social issues.

Kedrick works as a professional dancer at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, Fla. Best of all, he's a great person that we are happy to see succeed!

This week brings an Early Release Day this Friday, September 22. (School will dismiss at 1:30 pm, and there will be no after school supervision.) This week also marks the end of the first half of the first quarter. Progress Reports will be sent to parents and guardians via email the week of September 25.

Due to the forecast for inclement weather this week related to Hurricane Idalia, all district schools and offices are now moving to a half day on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, and an eLearning/remote work day on Thursday, August 31, 2023. School and district buildings will be closed on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

The half-day bell times can be found on our website; click on the “Bell Schedules” icon on the main page. Your child’s teacher or school will provide direction about the process for learning later this afternoon.

On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, a take-home “protein pack” or “brunch kit” will be offered for $2.75 for students who do not qualify for free lunch and provided free of charge for those who do. Modified hot school lunches will be served in all schools as well.

Kaleidoscope and all other extracurricular activities and afterschool programs scheduled for Wednesday, August 30, 2023, and Thursday, August 31, 2023, are canceled. The Constituent District 3 community meeting for James Island is also canceled. The district will be in touch once the event is rescheduled.

Subject to change, pending conditions, high school athletics (only) are still being held Thursday, August 31, 2023, with an arrival time no earlier than 3:30 PM on campuses.

We have a wonderful workshop that will take place at SOA on June 15th. It is open to both Middle and High school dancers.

One of our Successful SOA alumni and her company (STYX) is linking up with Unbound Ballet project and will be hosting a Contemporary and Ballet workshop on June 15th. Following the workshop her company will be performing on June 17th.

We encourage students to sign up for this workshop and or purchase tickets to the Show on the 17th.

This week, the School of the Arts Dance Department begins another residency with two renowned instructors 🩰

The middle school students will be working with Jordan Benton, who extensive theatre and dance experience as a performer, choreographer, and instructor...and she's a CCSD Fine Arts alum!

The high school students will be working with Crystal Wellman, who has instructed, choreographed, and performed with ballet companies across the country.

SOA Dance

The Charleston County SOA Dance Department with an emphasis on both technical mastery and creativity that introduces dancers to a wide array of dance styles they would not get anywhere else. The goal is to provide students with the necessary skills and discipline to be successful as a dancer and a college dance student, focusing on process. The well-rounded curriculum provides the movement, the technical skills, the creativity, and knowledge demanded by college dance programs nationwide. The Dance Department Curriculum is based on the National and SC Dance Standards. SC Dance Standards are posted in the classroom and can be found on the State Department of Education website.
