Today we celebrate:

Dr. Whitney Smith
DNP, APRN, AGPCNP-BC

Dr. Smith is a three-time alumna of the Medical University of South Carolina (BSN, 1999; MSN, 2001;
DNP, 2017) and has served on faculty in the College of Nursing since 2013. She has been Lead AGNP and Post-MSN faculty since 2014 and currently serves as Interim Assistant Dean of Graduate Practice Programs.

Dr. Smith has extensive teaching experience across all APRN clinical and DNP project courses and serves as CoChair of the Center for Healthy Aging (CfHA) Education and Outreach Pillar alongside Dr. Lindell.

She became a nurse to become a nurse practitioner and was in the first class that MUSC CON allowed
BSN graduates to go straight into their MSN APRN program. As a Nurse Practitioner, she has worked in women's health, skilled nursing, workers compensation and primary care. She says she has always loved being a nurse practitioner, and even more so educating the next generation of NPs!🫶🏻

Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her family, daughter, Anna (19), son, Aidan (24), family dog, Toddy, a Boykin Spaniel. ❤️🩺🔬🫶🏻🐶

MUSC Center for Healthy Aging

This week is nurses week. Let’s celebrate our nurses at the Center for Healthy Aging! 🩺🔬💊❤️

Dr. Kathy Lindell.

Dr. Lindell has been a nurse for 48 years. She graduated in 1978 from St. Francis Medical Center School of Professional Nursing in Pittsburg, PA. She also has 3 degrees from the University of Pittsburgh ( BSN, MSN in Pulmonary Speciality, and a PhD in Nursing.)

She has been at MUSC since 2020 as an Associate Professor and the Mary Swain Endowed Chair in Palliative Care, and also serves as Interim Department Chair. She is the Co- chair of the Center for Healthy Aging Education and Outreach Pillar with Dr. Whitney Smith. Dr. Lindell says she loves working with students and watching their growth through our program.

In her free time, Dr. Lindell enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband, and their first granddaughter. ❤️🩺🔬

The MUSC Center for Healthy Aging Monthly Speaker Series for May presents:

This presentation will take place on May 12th at noon in room 221 in the MUSC College of Nursing. Bring your lunch, bring a friend!

The 2026 MUSC Center for Healthy Aging EXPO in partnership with Trident Area Agency on Aging and Lowcountry Senior Network was a great success.

We had over 170 exhibitors and over 800 attendees this year. Our Senior P.R.E.P. area which is Planning and Resources for Emergency Preparedness grew this year bringing more state and regional agencies together.

This year we moved the stage to the center which opened up the hall and shortened the aisles. This not only made it easier to connect with others, but also helped reduce fatigue. We had a great response to our Relaxation Station this year where people could stop to have a massage, read a book or even experience a sound bath.

We are so grateful for all our volunteers and exhibitors who made this year so special.
