Wait. What...I know better. I'm being told allegedly the drama teacher at North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary told the black students that BLACK PEOPLE are POOR and DESERVE to be in JAIL.. I need to know exactly what was said to our children. This is highly unacceptable!! Do I have any friends whose children attend that school?
CCSD prides itself on offering an in-depth menu of creative arts choices for students. CCSD boasts a diverse student population, and as such, the arts programs offered in all 87 schools and programs are plentiful. According to CCSD Grants Officer Alicia Kokkinis, each year, over 20 CCSD schools apply for grants to support visual and performing arts opportunities.

The grant funds provide over $200,000 in additional arts resources for students.

In celebration of National Arts in Education Week September 11-17, CCSD recognizes the various dance programs in which students participate.

This past school year, the Medical University of South Carolina's (MUSC) Arts in Healing program worked to develop a Community Gallery of artwork. CCSD students and teachers were given the opportunity to submit artwork to be considered to become a part of the Community Gallery.

MUSC’s Community Galleries are a part of a larger effort from Arts in Healing to reach the larger Charleston community, while continually supporting those served within the walls of MUSC hospitals. From student-created work to poetry written by teachers, the Community Galleries exemplifies the innovation and creativity of our friends within the Charleston County School District.

The following CCSD students' and teachers' artwork have been selected to be a part of the MUSC Community Gallery, and are currently on display in the Main Hospital, as well as in the Rutledge Tower.

“Ms. Wandia Richardson from our awesome North Charleston Rec staff brought in her bunny, Sunny, for the kiddos last Friday. She spent the week teaching the second grade students about rabbits, and how to take care of a pet rabbit. Her group even had to pass a test before she would bring him in! We let all of the students meet Sunny and they loved him. Even our smaller friends had a great time.” - Kat Norsworthy, Site Coordinator at North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary

State tests show more CCSD students are "READY" - Stories of CCSD 09/05/2023

CCSD students improved reading scores to record levels in all grades and among all student groups, according to the recently released SC READY test results from last Spring. This is a major boost to CCSD’s priority goal to improve the number of students reading at their expected grade level and represents the highest achievement since the inception of the SC Ready assessment in 2016.

Every grade tested, from third through eighth, and every demographic group of students saw gains last year, continuing a two-year trend of improvement.

We hope you’ll watch this “Stories of CCSD” featuring CCSD students, teachers, and principals who led this historic effort.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call 843-937-6303.
