We love to see the churn dance! One of the highlights of Juneteenth Family Fest is watching the little ones tap into their roots and perform with smiles on their faces. Without a doubt, they are making our ancestors proud.

African Dance & Drum Production is located in Charleston, SC, and owned by Mrs. Charlene Horlbak! The school was founded in 2012, after Horlback left her position as director of the dance company R.B.M. Deninufay’s primary goal is to educate children in the local area on many different dance and music customs from Africa.

Cultural education, self-discipline, and respect for the community that the children of Deninufay come from are all embedded in the dance and drum curriculum the school promotes. Once the children of the community have learned any lesson, they are encouraged to spread the knowledge they’ve gained.

Book them for your next event at [email protected].

October is National Hispanic Heritage Month! This month, we are highlighting Celia Cruz (1925-2003), a Black Cuban singer who made an indelible mark on music history globally. She rose to fame in the 1950s as a singer of guarachas, a genre of Cuban music. Known as the “Queen of Salsa,” Cruz lived in Cuba, and then Mexico, before settling in the United States. To this day, Celia Cruz remains one of the best-selling Latin music artists.
