FRIDAY's MINUTE OF MOVEMENT...…….. FUN WITH TOSS & CATCH!!!!!
How? Start simple! Have your preschoolers simply toss a soft ball, bean bag, or small pillow up and catch. Children’s eyes must focus on the object being tossed at all times. Begin with 2-hand catches and low throws and as they grow more comfortable with toss and catch have them progress to higher 1-hand toss and catches. Once they are ready, have them incorporate walking as they toss and catch. This is such a basic, fun and essential movement activity for children!
Why? “Following an object with the eyes develops eye-hand coordination focusing and eye tracking.” The Maze Handbook by Candace S. Meyer, M.S.
Benefit? This activity helps coordinate eyes and hands. Writing, computer work and many other skills are directly effected by this simple activity.

How? Have your child/children walk “backwards” up or down stairs. With adult supervision have them hold on to the hand rail and look straight ahead while walking backwards.
Why? “Walking stairs backward develops whole body coordination moving in a posterior plane, and further enhances motor planning and depth perception.” The Maze Handbook by Candace S. Meyer, M.S.
This activity will helps children learn to do things without looking like buttoning a coat!

How? Choose a path along a wall for your children to have fun sliding along! Have your child/children get as close to the wall as possible without touching the wall. Side-step keeping their eyes, face and feet parallel to the wall. Step to the side then slide the other foot along until it reaches the lead foot. Halfway along your designated path, have your child/children turn 180 degrees and finish the remainder of the path with the other leg.
Why? “Sliding “develops laterality, directionality and spatial awareness in the brain/body in an integrative whole-body movement” The Maze Handbook by Candace S. Meyer, M.S.
This activity will help children organize their ‘space and time’ more efficiently as well as helping recognize right from left.

Week one of school is done! If you have children enrolled in school, I am sure you are interested in their experiences and how they feel about their day. However, when asked how their day was or what they did, we often receive a reply of "fine" and "I don't know." Try asking open-ended but more specific types of questions such as those listed below. Hopefully this will spark more conversation to share!

Good Wacky Wednesday Afternoon!
This will be our last Wacky Wednesday video until next school year. Thank you for allowing me to share these fun activities with you. I hope that your families had as much fun doing them as mine did.
