May is Mental Health Awareness Month. SOA School Counselors and School Psychologist chatted with students during both high school and middle school lunches on Wednesday, May 6 to recognize Mental Health Awareness along with other schools across Charleston County School District. We wore 💚 green 💚 and shared goodies promoting mental health and wellness, strategies, and stress relief. Students loved all of the information and takeaways, especially the textured calming stickers, mindfulness cards and stress relief cards. They were excited to start putting them into practice.

Thank you to the parents, students, and colleges that were able to attend our Junior Post-secondary Planning Program yesterday evening. Parents and students were able to obtain information and ask questions to help prepare for senior year and everything that comes with life after high school, no matter which pathway they decide to take.

SOA 6th graders were excited to have a discussion with Ms. Jennifer Gorham from the City of Charleston and SOA Junior Kayla, who is a part of the City of Charleston's Youth Commission. Students received stress relief bags with great tools that can help them relieve stress, especially in preparation for upcoming state testing. Coloring pages, stress balls, breathing techniques, bubbles, and instructions to create beaded fidget bracelets. Thank you to Ms. Gorham and Kayla!
