Palmetto Scholars Academy

South Carolina's first Public Charter School specifically focused on the needs of Gifted & Talented Students.

PSA was formed by a group of parents and educators seeking a unique educational experience for high ability students. They wanted a school setting that provided academic challenge in all subjects (not just math and English language arts) and met the social and emotional needs of Gifted students. Palmetto Scholars Academy opened its doors for the first time for the Fall 2010-2011 school year.

Operating as usual

Due to the potential for heavy rainfall and high winds, PSA will hold an eLearning Day on Tuesday, January 9. The building will be closed and AfterCare and all athletic and academic team practices will also be cancelled on Tuesday, January 9. Teachers will post expectations for Tuesday's classwork to their Schoology pages. We understand that families may experience internet or electricity outages, so there is not a requirement to log in to a live virtual class.

MAP testing for students in grades 6-8 will shift to Thursday, January 11.

We hope that everyone stays safe and we look forward to seeing students and staff back in the building on Wednesday, January 10.

Students in grades 6-8 will complete MAP testing this week, here is the schedule:
Monday, January 8 - MAP ELA Testing, 8:30-11:00 AM
Tuesday, January 9 - MAP Math Testing, 8:30 - 11:00 AM

Please ensure that your student brings their fully charged PSA-issued Chromebook and charger to school for testing each day.

Additionally, we are aware that there is a potential for inclement weather this Tuesday. We are monitoring the forecast and announcements from neighboring school districts. We will update the community on Monday afternoon if there are any changes to Tuesday's school schedule. As of September 8, 2023, PSA is now approved to use eLearning days. Thank you!

This year as part of recruiting, we will be hosting a virtual enrollment fair.

Please register for this event using the link below: The Google Meet link will be sent to the email address provided during registration 24 hours before the event.

We hope to see you there!

We hope that you've been enjoying your break, and look forward to seeing you back at school next week!

🚌 We've been on the move - visiting some incredible charter schools across the state to engage with school leaders, teachers, and most importantly, the students who make these schools so special.

We've enjoyed the insightful discussions with school leaders about their innovative approaches to education and the challenges they face. But of course, meeting with the students has been an absolute highlight. Their enthusiasm, creativity, and determination are simply inspiring. 📚🎓

Dear PSA Community,

From approximately 12:45 PM - 1:45 PM, we had a medical situation involving an individual student in the front office area. In effort to protect the student's privacy we closed the front of the school; however there was not a concern for campus safety.

Students were moved to the back loop outside and into the gym during lunch. Students were not on lockdown, they could use the restrooms and water fountains located on the side of the school that their class was located in. The nurse was available if students needed anything, and teachers continued classroom instruction as normal.
