📍Due to the possibility on inclement weather and dangerous road conditions, Palmetto Excel will end the school day at 2:40pm tomorrow (1/21), and the building will be closed on Wednesday (1/22). On Wednesday, please engage in virtual tutoring with your teachers (teachers will provide more details). A determination for Thursday (1/23) has not been made yet, but as soon as more information is available, we will let you know. Stay safe and keep warm.

🔦✨ STAFF SPOTLIGHT : On this week’s feature of Staff Spotlight we are starting with our awesome Administrators at Palmetto Excel.
✨ Today’s feature our College and Career Readiness Manager Troy Barnes. - Stop here to learn a little about him ✨
Mr. Barnes is an educator with 34 years of total experience spending his first 14 years as a classroom teacher offering students study in American History, Political Science, Economics, and Government. He also served as a teacher-leader, leading an interdisciplinary, collaborative teacher team. Mr. Barnes served on many curriculum writing teams and school improvement initiatives in his role as a teacher-leader.
Mr. Barnes helped plan and open a new high school which compelled him to pursue administration roles. Serving as an Assistant Principal in three high schools within his home district, Mr. Barnes lead programs for at-risk student populations, served as a lead academic program scheduler, and increased rigor for students through his “Step Up” initiative.
Mr. Barnes also served for six years as the Principal of Century High School, the Blue-Ribbon school he had previously planned and opened. During his time at Century, educators reformed their practice in assessment and evaluation of student work, creating a new model for teacher-student academic dialogue which resulted in increased student performance across all academic levels.
Mr. Barnes then served as the Supervisor of Advanced Academics for the district. Responsible for the advanced education of highly able learners,’ grades K-12. Mr. Barnes made the program more accessible for all students, reformed identification practices and realigned advanced studies to extend key curricular concepts.
Having a deep belief in the mission of Palmetto Excel, Mr. Barnes seeks to create vocational and academic pathways for students to achieve new credentialing and improve their standing in our workforce.

✨ Today’s feature our Director, Dr. Easley. - Stop here to learn a little about him ✨
- Dr. Easley joined the Palmetto Excel Center after serving as the Lead Instructor at the Goodwill Excel Center (GEC) in Washington, D.C. During his time at GEC, Dr. Easley used his ten-plus years of educational experience to support the growth of the instructors, as well as maintained the instructional integrity of the school.
Dr. Easley earned his bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education from Kennesaw State University. He then continued his educational pursuits by earning his Master’s and Specialist degrees in Instructional Technology, and Doctorate in Teacher Leadership. He continues to apply the knowledge he gained to innovate and re-engineer how we educate students, as well as support teachers in their growth journeys.
Dr. Easley seeks to Re-imagine high school education for adult learners by providing well-rounded educational services in hopes of preparing students for economic mobility. He is dedicated to supporting a staff who provides equitable, student-centered, competency-based instruction for adult learners while nurturing the social and mental well-being of students and empowering all learners to remove barriers inside and outside the classroom. He is also committed to fostering a culture of care, empathy, and community, where all voices are heard and validated.
We are happy to have you Dr. Easley and appreciate you for making our school a better place ✨

Palmetto Excel students, if you were planning to come to school for extra help and tutoring, school will be closed tomorrow (Friday, September 27) due to the possibility of a tropical storm. If you still need tutoring, we are here for you! All teachers will be available in virtual classrooms from 1pm-4pm. If you would like to visit with your teacher, please click on one of the links in the comments below!
