Mission Statement
The mission of Casa dei Girasoli Montessori School is to nurture the development of the whole child by creating a supportive, extensive Montessori education and community; encouraging independence and foundational skills, while respecting and addressing the uniqueness of each child. About Us
"We discovered education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human spirit." - Maria Montessori
Casa dei Girasoli Montessori School is a collective of educators, caregivers, children and community dedicated to the Montessori philosophy. A Montessori school for children ages 2.5 to 6, Casa dei Girasoli believes education should benefit the whole child meeting him/her where he/she is on their path through education and in the end, life. We believe:
Children should be treated with respect. Modeling this behavior is first and foremost by our educators, staff, parents and community. Education and learning are not “one size fits all.” Children learn naturally by observing their surroundings and through experiences where the child is a participant in his/her own environment, which promotes knowledge, problem solving skills and independence. Children need to feel heard and supported. Success builds confidence. Teachers are not meant to lecture students, but guide them through processes and offer support when necessary. Learning can be and IS an enchanting experience! Casa dei Girasoli was established in August 2021 by educators Brianna Heupel and NoElle Wisner. They felt strongly that residents of Berkeley and Dorchester counties deserved to have a safe and loving Montessori environment for their children. Brianna and NoElle taught together during the 2020-2021 school year before deciding to branch out and form their own school. They were met with overwhelming support from students and parents that they had worked with and had ten students follow them to Casa dei Girasoli with more community members anxious to join. Upon creating Casa dei Girasoli, they brought in Aliza MacClellan, a parent and community member, to take on the administrative tasks and help turn Casa dei Girasoli into a successful Montessori program.
