The Lower Elementary classroom had a special field trip to Steel City Pizza Co. today! Students got a private tour of the restaurant, learned about the different processes and jobs available in the food/beverage industry, and best of all… made their own pizzas! Special thank you to General Manager Mandy Frasier and her crew for this specialized experience!

So much joy and gratitude on our Friday before break. Our Elementary students enjoyed a relaxing movie day and our Primary students had a fun dance party. Both classes celebrated with our annual tradition of making Stone Soup. Each child brings in one ingredient to add to the pot and we read the story and learn that the magic ingredient is sharing.
"Bring what you've got. Put it in the pot. WE'RE MAKING STONE SOUP!"
Come and see how 🌻
We are so grateful and excited to announce a new partnership with Palmetto SpOt as they expand their program to offer in school services. Now, students at Casa dei Girasoli Montessori School will be able to receive Occupational and Speech Therapy during the school day, allowing children to experience a "one stop shop" educational environment to support learning and development. Thanks for providing this service, Palmetto SpOT!
Today we had wonderful visitors from Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR) come visit our school and teach our students about biometrics. Students were taught how to make their fingerprints, and that everyone has their own unique fingerprint. They also got to meet the robodog, Ibo. Our students in Primary and Elementary had a blast!

Golden Beads are a key element material for math lessons in the Primary and Lower Elementary Classroom. They teach units by guiding children understand the base10 number system. This work can start with children as young as age 4.5 years old, while elementary children ages 6-8 years old have extensions to build on. Golden Beads introduce and teach the four arithmetic operations and, later, for word problems, divisibility, squaring, and square root work. As long as the student has mastered reading and writing numbers 1-20, they are ready for this essential and functional math lesson.🌻
Happy Halloween from all of us at Casa dei Girasoli!
We can't wait to meet you 🌻
The Lower Elementary class went on a “Biome Hunt” today to collect items from nature representing each part of a biome! Animals, water, air, energy, plants and soil that make up each biome were found right outside our door 🌎🕷️💧💨☀️🌱🌻

You may notice how Montessori classrooms are grouped into 3 year age ranges. This is in relation to the planes of development children are observed to enter every 3 years.
The second plane runs from around age six to twelve when children enter adolescence. A time for exploration through increased intellectual activity and social development (reasoning mind). One of these children is 6, one is 9; and here they work side by side independently and peacefully. 🌻
Thank you to everyone for your continued support and spreading the love of Montessori!🌻

Every year on September 21st, we celebrate the International Day of Peace. This day is recognized by the United Nations as a day to practice non-violence and peaceful communications with a global ceasefire. Montessori schools across the world celebrate by singing "Light a Candle for Peace" by Shelley Murley. Children from all over sing at designated times throughout the day so that the song travels around the world on International Day of Peace. 💛✌️💙
We love the Red Rods! One of the earliest math lessons, a popular extension is making a Maze. The children build a winding path that uses the longest rods first and then the smallest rods to make the interior. The students have to use visual discrimination skills to decide where the rods need to be placed in order to make The Maze work and be sure to take. careful steps to so they do not bump a Red Rod out of place. Taking turns and waiting patiently are also important parts of doing this work cooperatively with a classmate, as only one child at a time is allowed inside The Maze.🌻
Care of the Environment is a huge element of the Montessori curriculum. A leg of practical life, it helps children with their gross and fine motor skills, gain independence, and work toward becoming contributing members of the household and society. It is one students are always working on to master.🌻
