Our classroom, known as The prepared environment, is never static. It grows and evolves alongside the children who learn within it.

As a new school year approaches, our space has been thoughtfully refreshed with new Montessori materials and carefully considered changes to meet the developmental needs, interests, and abilities of the upcoming year’s community of little learners.

Every material has a purpose. Every shelf has intention. Our goal is to create an environment that invites independence, concentration, exploration, and joyful discovery.

We can’t wait to welcome both new and returning children into a space that has been lovingly prepared just for them 💝

That’s a wrap on our inaugural school year!!!

As you can hear, one child proudly exclaims, “I did it!” A fitting tribute to a year filled with growth and perseverance.

Even on the very last day, the children could be found deeply engaged in purposeful work, choosing activities with concentration, care, and joy right up until the final moments. It was a beautiful testament to their growing independence, their love of learning, and the comfort and confidence that comes from meaningful routines.

As we close the classroom doors for summer, we are so proud of all that these children have accomplished so far, and we are beyond grateful for our Founding Families who have been part of this incredible first year and helped shape our school into the warm and thriving community it is today. Let’s just say, the bar is set high.

Wishing everyone a summer filled with adventure, sunshine, rest, and many opportunities to explore the world around us. We can’t wait to see you back in September and we’re excited for all that the next chapter will bring.

It is a wonder to watch a caterpillar turn into a butterfly, but what’s more is hearing a 3yo child announce: “It emerged!!!”

With excitement and wonder, we watched each stage of the butterfly life cycle and the transformation from tiny caterpillars, to chrysalises, and into beautiful butterflies ready to be released into the world.

At Little Brook Montessori, science lessons include recording observations (“It looks prickly!”) to learning about metamorphosis and the needs of living things (“Don’t forget the sugar water!”) to discriminating shape and color through puzzles and matching activities, as well as creative art projects.

When we connect hands-on experiences with scientific discovery and artistic expression, children develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world around them - lessons that will stay with them long after the butterflies have flown away. 🦋

A beautiful moment where one child has trouble fastening snaps, and a friend comes over to help — and then, without hesitation or prompting, they swapped places to let each other practice. In a Montessori classroom, children learn that independence and kindness go hand in hand. Sometimes we are the helper, and sometimes we are the one being helped. 🤍

These quiet moments show how patience and cooperation build confidence, and they are some of the most meaningful parts of our day.

As we break for Memorial Day weekend, we honor and remember those who gave so much in service to our country. 🇺🇸

Over the course of several days, our children created their own American flags, taking time to learn about “flag etiquette” and the meaning of Memorial Day in a thoughtful and age-appropriate way. Wishing all of our families a meaningful Memorial Day. ❤️🤍💙

A truly special day at Little Brook Montessori. One of our school parents, a veterinarian, visited the children with a gentle therapy dog for a hands-on learning experience they won’t soon forget. From practicing calm, respectful interactions to listening to the dog’s heartbeat through a stethoscope, the children were completely engaged — curious, attentive, and full of smiles and wonder.

In Montessori education, we use our hands. Dr. Montessori herself described, “The hands are the instruments of intelligence”.

With the Number Rods, children build a concrete understanding of numbers, quantity, sequence, and one-to-one correspondence. They can see and feel what each number truly represents before ever moving to abstract symbols.

And if you look to the periphery of the direct lesson you’ll see something just as powerful: younger children learning through observation, absorbing concepts through osmosis as they watch older peers work with focus, confidence, and purpose.

If I had a hammer….🎶 It may look simple, yet hammering is powerful and purposeful work. Each tap builds hand-eye coordination and strengthens fine motor control. Children are learning to judge distance, control force, and persist through trial and error - skills that transfer to writing, self-care, and so much more. The satisfying sound and rhythm also develops concentration. Real tools, real work, real confidence.
