🍳 Enjoy a delicious, home-cooked breakfast prepared by our Culinary Arts students under the direction of Chef Michael DelaPaz and Chef Robert Eckert. Following breakfast, guests will be treated to performances by the West Essex music and theater departments. 🎼

❤️ This special annual tradition is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the senior members of our community and bring generations together. It is the spirit of community that makes West Essex such a special place to live. 🤍

Have you heard? West Essex Regional School District has two questions (bond referendum) that will appear on the General Election ballot on Tues. Nov. 3.

A referendum webpage on the district’s site is your central hub for details on all proposed projects, estimated tax impact, FAQs, and how voter approval unlocks state aid to offset the cost to taxpayers.

🏫 The Nov. 3 referendum proposes addressing aging building systems and structures BEFORE they require costly emergency repairs. The district takes a proactive approach to maintenance, and several HVAC units, exterior walls and other infrastructure components have reached or are nearing the end of their expected lifespan.

🗳️ With voter approval, the district could complete these replacements with the help of state aid toward about one-third of these project costs, which reduces the tax impact.

🇺🇸 On Friday, September 11, our district commemorated the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Students in grades 7-12 joined faculty, staff, Board of Education members, local first responders, and members of our community at our high school stadium for a morning of remembrance and reflection.

As part of the morning, West Essex hosted a breakfast for first responders from Essex Fells, Fairfield, North Caldwell and Roseland in appreciation of their service to our communities.

We heard from guest speaker John Miskulin, a North Caldwell resident whose children are West Essex alumni. He told his powerful story from his experience on September 11.

We also acknowledged West Essex alumni, Class of 1980 students, Norman Rossinow and John P. Salamone, whose lives were tragically lost that day. Members of the Salamone Family joined us for the football game at 2:00 pm and served as honorary captains for the coin-toss.

In recognition of the 25th anniversary, the West Essex Student Council sold commemorative t-shirts, with proceeds benefiting our local volunteer fire departments and first aid squads.

Thank you to everyone who helped put this important event together. 25 years later, WE remember and will never forget September 11th, 2001. ❤️🤍💙

🇺🇸Retired FDNY Paramedic Captain JD DeSantis spoke to students in grades 7–12 today during four assemblies. He was a first responder at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, and responded before the Twin Towers collapsed. Captain DeSantis shared the challenges of managing a crisis, the heartbreaking loss of two members of his team, and the lasting impact of that tragic day.

We are grateful to Captain DeSantis for sharing his powerful story with our students, especially as we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11. 🇺🇸

Safety and security are top priorities at West Essex Regional School District, and that is reinforced by the referendum. These types of updates qualify for the maximum amount of state aid, which means with voter approval, about one-third of the costs would be covered instead of the full costs landing on local tax bills.
