Last week, Opstad Elementary proudly celebrated the kickoff of the PTA's 2026 Otter Dash with an exciting schoolwide assembly that built excitement for the weeks ahead. Students received their Otter Dash shirts, cheered as prizes were handed out, and learned about the spirit days that would keep the energy going all week long.

Throughout Spirit Week, students showed their creativity and school pride in a variety of ways. They lit up the hallways in bright colors for Neon Day, channeled their inner Backstreet Boys for White Out Day, proudly represented their school during Otter Pride Day, and wrapped up the week with the always popular Pajama/Fancy Day.

From prizes and dress up days to an incredible display of school spirit, the week was filled with excitement, laughter, and plenty of Otter pride, and the fun isn't over yet! Students are continuing to work toward classroom goals as we count down to Otter Dash Day on October 15. We can't wait to see our Otters come together for this exciting event and celebrate all of their hard work.

A huge thank you to the Opstad PTA for helping make the 2026 Otter Dash kickoff such a memorable and spirited success! πŸ¦¦πŸ’™

Calling All Otter Grown-Ups: Come Play With Us! πŸ¦¦πŸ’™

We're excited to bring back Parents on the Playground at Opstad!

Recess is more than just play. It's where students build friendships, practice teamwork, solve problems, learn sportsmanship, and have fun. While our staff supervise for safety, volunteers can jump into games, encourage students, and be positive role models.

🏈 We especially need referees!

Our older Otters would love adults to help with football, kickball, Four Square, Gaga Ball, basketball, and more. Sometimes a neutral grown-up helping settle a close call is exactly what's needed!

🦦 Want to join us? If you're already an approved SVSD volunteer with a current background check, simply stop by the office and let Lori or Heidi know you're here for Parents on the Playground. We'll get you signed in, review a few basics, provide a blue volunteer vest, and send you out to play.

Not approved yet? We'd still love to have you! Complete the district volunteer process and background check on the SVSD Website: https://www.svsd410.org/community/volunteering

No coaching or athletic ability required. Just a willingness to play, encourage kids, model good sportsmanship, and have fun.

Whether you can help once, monthly, or regularly, we'd love to see more Opstad families on the playground! πŸ’™πŸ¦¦

Yesterday, our third grade students took their first field trip of the school year to the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery! Students had the opportunity to learn all about the life cycle of salmon, discover where some animal foods come from, and get an up-close look at salmon eggs. They even got to feed some of the fish!

It was a fun-filled day of hands-on learning and exploration. We are so proud of how well our 3rd graders represented our school through their curiosity, engagement, and excellent behavior throughout the trip.

Great job, Otters!

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Have More Than One Child at Opstad?

We designed this year's schedule with you in mind! Many common sibling grade combinations have formal presentations back-to-back, making it easier to attend both.
If two of your children's formal presentations are scheduled at the same time, attend one teacher's formal presentation and visit the other classroom during its Open Classroom time.

πŸ’™ Kindergarten & New Opstad Families

We would especially love to see you at our 5:30 p.m. Welcome to Opstad with the Principal and PTA. We'll share a little about our school, our community, and how we work together to make Opstad a great place for kids.
Returning families are, of course, welcome to join us too!

School’s out for summer at Opstad Elementary! β˜€οΈπŸΎ
Today, we celebrated our incredible 5th graders with our annual Clap Out. Students lined the walkway as our Otters took one last tour around campus, cheered on every step of the way, before heading off to middle school.

We are so proud of our 5th graders as they take the next stepβ€”trading in their Otter pride for Raven spirit! Wishing all of our students a fun, safe, and well-deserved summer! πŸŽ“
