Did you know?
The North Bend School District has qualified for a $4 Million matching grant through the Oregon School Capital Improvement Matching Program (OSCIM). If the proposed bond measure passes, the district would receive this additional grant to help fund bond projects. This is a 17.5% bonus for our community's schools with no repayment required!

How will this bond affect my taxes?
The district estimates that the proposed $22.695 million dollar bond, if passed, would not increase the current tax rate. If passed, the Bond would maintain the current rate property owners in the North Bend School District are paying of $0.88 per $1,000 of assessed value for a length of time not to exceed 20 years from issuance.
How will do I know bond funds will be spent on these projects?
Local Control: Proposed bond measure funds would be raised locally and could only be spent on improvements to North Bend schools as approved by voters. Additionally, an independent citizen-led Bond Oversight Committee would be established to oversee the use of bond funds and regular, independent audits will be conducted.

Remember this bond will not raise the taxes. And the state will kick in an additional $4 million. We can't pass this chance up!
The North Bend School District Proposed Bond Measure 9-165 was developed as a result of several assessments and series of community-led groups over the course of the last few years.
In 2019, the district partnered with parents, community members, district leadership and industry experts to craft a Long Range Facilities Plan that assessed the District’s facilities needs over the next 10 years. This assessment was based on building condition assessments, educational adequacy assessments, and capacity analyses. It provides a capital improvement plan for addressing building condition deficiencies, as well as educational program changes, and enrollment growth.
In 2020, after the completion of the Long Range Facilities Plan, the North Bend School District formed a citizen-led Bond Development Committee that gathered public input on the needs of school buildings.
This committee gathered public input on the needs of school buildings and the priorities of the North Bend community.
The Bond Development Committee collaborated with district leadership and architectural experts to form a comprehensive $22.695 million bond package to:
* Address Health, Safety and Security
* Repair & Update Aging School Buildings
* Expand Hands On Learning & Student Career Pathways

These are the programs that can be expanded when the bond passes.
February is CTE Month which stands for Career and Technical Education. Our CTE programs at North Bend High School directly prepare students for high-demand careers. Our programs cover many different fields, including culinary, health care, manufacturing and graphic design.
Chef Frank Murphy started his career in Ireland in 1982. He trained in a four year study/internship program at the prestigious Rockwell Hotel and Catering College in Tipperary. He moved on to a successful career as a chef, working in award winning hotels and restaurants around Ireland. His crowning achievement during those years was being recognized and awarded the all Ireland “Chef of the Sea”.
In 1990, he moved to Florida and again worked as a chef and here his love of teaching began to emerge, when he took a position at the Florida Culinary Institute in West Palm Beach. He moved to the Pacific Northwest in 1997, where he opened The Grounds Cafe. He again started teaching in 2012 at North Bend High School, teaching only two culinary classes in the beginning.
As time went on he was fortunate enough that his passion for food, students and life was recognized and he began to build his much sought out program into a complete Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathway of courses where students complete an eleven-course series over three years. Graduates of his program have gone on to Oregon Coast Culinary Institute (OCCI) or directly to jobs in the industry. He has been recognized for Excellence in Innovation and Educator of the year from Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.
The bond that will be on the ballot in September will be Measure 6-195.
The district estimates that the proposed $22.69 million bond would maintain the current tax rate that property owners in the North Bend School District are currently paying.
Please spread the word that this will not raise taxes and that everyone please vote yes.
