🧩 Could an FBA help your child?

When challenging behaviors begin interfering with communication, school, family routines, or everyday activities, it can be difficult to understand why they are happening. A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) can help identify patterns and better understand what may be contributing to a behavior.

In our newest Parent Resource article, we explore 5 signs your child may benefit from an FBA, including:

✨ Challenging behaviors happening frequently
🔍 Behaviors occurring in specific situations
🗣️ Difficulty communicating wants and needs
🔄 Strategies that aren't producing lasting results
❤️ Behaviors affecting your child's quality of life

Understanding the why behind behavior can help us teach meaningful replacement skills and create more individualized support.

🧩 Why Does My Child Keep Doing That Behavior?

One of the most common questions parents ask is, "Why is my child behaving this way?" The answer may surprise you—every behavior serves a purpose. Behavior is communication, and understanding the "why" behind it is the first step toward creating meaningful, lasting change.
In our newest Parent Resource article, we break down the ABCs of Behavior and teach you how to:

✨ Identify what happens before a behavior (Antecedent)
✨ Objectively describe the behavior
✨ Understand what happens after the behavior (Consequence)
✨ Recognize the four common functions of behavior
✨ Learn how to collect simple ABC data at home to identify behavior patterns

When we understand the why, we can teach the how—helping children develop positive communication, emotional regulation, and problem-solving skills.

Understanding the ABCs of Behavior

Behavior is communication. Before we ask, “How do we stop this behavior?” let’s ask, “What is my child trying to communicate?”

The ABCs of behavior can help us better understand why behaviors occur:

✨ A = Antecedent (What happened before the behavior?)
✨ B = Behavior (What exactly did the child do?)
✨ C = Consequence (What happened immediately afterward?)

When we understand the why behind behavior, we can teach meaningful replacement skills that help children communicate their wants, needs, and emotions more successfully.

Remember—behaviors aren’t “good” or “bad.” They’re opportunities to learn, connect, and provide support. ❤️

Parent and caregiver involvement is one of the most important predictors of meaningful and lasting progress in ABA therapy. While children learn valuable skills during their therapy sessions, true success happens when those skills are practiced and generalized across the people, places, and routines that make up their everyday lives. Parent training empowers families with practical strategies that support their child's growth while strengthening the partnership between caregivers and clinicians.

In this article, we'll explore why parent training is an essential component of ABA therapy, how it promotes the generalization and maintenance of skills, why many insurance providers require caregiver participation, and the lasting benefits it can have for both children and their families.

Supporting Meaningful Progress Beyond Therapy Sessions When families begin Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, one of the most valuable components of treatment is parent and caregiver training. While children may make wonderful progress during therapy sessions, meaningful and lasting change ha
