Max Roman Dilthey '13 will present the Fall 2026 Elizabeth and Lawrence Vadnais Environmental Issues Lecture, "Solving Impossible Problems in Offshore Wind," at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 15, in MCLA's Feigenbaum Center for Science and Innovation. A reception celebrating the gift of a painting from local artist Sarah Sutro to the Environmental Studies Department will be held at 6 p.m.

Dilthey is program manager and curriculum lead for the UMass Offshore Wind Professional Certificate, where he leads instruction for all three of the program's courses. He has 12 years of experience developing the curriculum on renewable energy, sustainability and the environment, and 10 years of experience working in the renewable energy sector.

The annual lecture series is named for MCLA Professor Emeritus Lawrence H. Vadnais and is sponsored by the Vadnais Endowment. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call MCLA's Office of Institutional Advancement at 413-662-5224 or email [email protected].

MCLA is seeking five first-generation alums to serve as in-person panelists and share their experiences with today's first-gen students, on campus, November 5 from 4-7 p.m.

The event, Mocktails & Motivation, will also include networking, alumni keynotes, career-prep workshops, a first-gen senior toast, and fabulous goodie bags.

The academic year at MCLA kicked off yesterday with Convocation, which formally welcomed our newest Trailblazers to campus. We'd like to give special thanks to Brett Random '15, who served as the event's keynote speaker. 💛💙

Brett Random, MSW, is a social work leader with more than 20 years of
experience serving Berkshire County through organizations dedicated to
strengthening children, families, and communities. Grounded in a strengths-based
approach, her leadership builds collaborative partnerships and advances community
resilience.

An innovative leader and advocate, Random was appointed as a Commonwealth Heroine by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women and recognized by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus. She currently serves as the Executive Director of Berkshire County Head Start Child Development Program, Inc.; Vice Chair of the Massachusetts Head Start Association Board of Directors; and as a member of the Greylock Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, remaining committed to empowering families and strengthening communities throughout Berkshire County.
