Melvin, Barbara and Brenda Boynton. Melvin was the Principal of Riverview Intermediate School in the 1960’s. He later became the Principal of Pine Tree Academy. He had brilliant wit and was a genuinely good man. He taught grades 9 and 10 when the school was a junior academy. Brenda graduated from RIS. I remember her as a very proficient pianist at Miss Weston’s piano recitals—after which all the parents and children stopped at the ice cream shop next door. (And Melvin ordered the largest ice cream sold! 😍)

“This is a court report of David Perkins, arrested November 4 for institutional sexual assault, indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old, and unlawful contact with a minor.

This man has taught in several Adventist primary and secondary schools over the years. If you know someone or are someone who has been assaulted by him, or have any information on possible victims, please send a private message.

I regret needing to expose that such a thing happened in one of my church's institutions. BUT perpetrators exist everywhere. In this case, the matter was handled well. The conference president did not give him a chance to resign. He wanted the firing on record and told the perpetrator so. This prompt, decisive action, plus an excellent state detective, led to this arrest.

This is the kind of abuse response I hope to see more of. If these kinds of things happen more often, perpetrators will start avoiding, rather than targeting, our churches.”

Those who are interested: the school could use the help of Alumni. At the beginning of the school year, I was told they were down to 12 students. The future looks grim for the school unless there is an infusion of students, cash or both.
