Summer Community Champion
A community champion is a person who collaborates with a variety of partners to strengthen school, business, and non-profit relationships for the benefit of the community and our students.

Mill Stream’s Summer Community Champion is Callie Hammer!

Callie takes her students out into the community so that they will be familiar with their own communities and that the community members will be familiar with them. She teaches her students to realize that being out in the community is an adventure and not something to be feared. On these excursions into the community her students are learning about money, using appropriate social skills, as well as the ability to wait their turn. Callie has developed an excellent program for our students who need a functional life skills curriculum. She also makes sure that her students feel the respect and affection that she has for them.

The District budget vote is scheduled for this Tuesday, June 9th in each of our communities. In addition to the district budget, which is up only 1.998% locally, there is a second item to vote on this year, the additional local cost sharing formula. We're excited to announce the spring community champion award at Mill Stream goes to Eleasha Works!

Eleasha has gone above and beyond to create meaningful, hands-on learning experiences for our first grade students by organizing a wool workshop that truly brought our community into the classroom.

Eleasha collaborated with several local community members to design and facilitate an engaging workshop centered around wool. Students were given the unique opportunity to explore materials and participate in a hands-on experience that connected learning to the real world. She thoughtfully coordinated with community partners, ensuring that their knowledge and expertise were shared in a way that was accessible and exciting for young learners. Her efforts strengthened the connection between our school and the wider community, creating a sense of shared purpose and pride.

🤝📚 Adopt-a-Classroom Connection Continues!

Our third graders were excited to welcome back their high school mentors for another meaningful Adopt-a-Classroom visit this week!

During this visit, high school students continued sharing their post–high school plans—whether college, career pathways, or other future goals—and took time to talk with younger students about what those journeys might look like. 🎓✨

These conversations are helping our third graders begin to imagine their own futures while building confidence, curiosity, and big dreams for what comes next.

We are so grateful for these powerful connections between students and the opportunity for learning to extend beyond the classroom walls. 💛
