Moooooooooom!: Works by Melissa Yes
The Lightwell Gallery presents Moooooooooom!, an exhibition of works by Melissa Yes, an American artist and educator working primarily in video. She is based in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, AL, where she works as the Assistant Professor of Digital Media at the University of Alabama.
โThis exhibition emphasizes works in video and needlecraft: materials in which I see motherhood documented in so many sincere yet inadequate ways. I find legibility and resolution in these media to be full of meaning. Pixels and stitches express so much, but never the full picture๏ปฟโ

Now in the SPOTLIGHT GALLERY: What Plants Whisper
What do plants know, and how do they communicate it? What Plants Whisper is a group exhibition of student works from the Fall 2025 Olfactory Art class, exploring scent as a bridge between human and plant perception. Rooted in research on plant intelligence, the show invites viewers to engage their noses, ears, and intuition to acknowledge plants as active, responsive beings. Artworks reflect individual experiments with botanical materials and aromatic processes, using smell to express stories of memory, emotion, ecology, and reciprocity. From fragrant installations to subtle scent-based gestures, these works ask: If plants are talking, are we listening?
