Whittier Middle School

As we closed our classrooms for the year, the Whittier faculty and staff took some time to recognize our new to the profession and new to Whittier teachers as they wrapped up their first year with us. We were lucky to have such a dynamic and talented group of educators join us this year.

And that’s a wrap on the 2025-2026 school year! Thank you all for a wonderful year of learning!

Today, Whittier students learned more about the working trucks in our community and the people who drive them through the 4th Annual Touch-A-Truck event! Students asked the drivers questions to learn more about their jobs and the systems that make the trucks special. We are so thankful for the community members who volunteered their time to provide this unforgettable experience for our students!

This quarter, our 6th grade students have been raising money for , a group that supports young adults with disabilities on the path to independence. They raised over $9,000 for the group this quarter as well as many arts and craft supplies. The money and supplies will be used for camps happening this summer. Great job 6th grade students!

Today, our Whittier Wagon coffee crew got to take their skills on the go to City Hall! They provided snacks and coffee donated by Beanstalk Coffee and Sno!

Our students in this program have been working since February to build important social and professional skills, such as teamwork, communication, and customer service.

Thank you to the City of Norman and Beanstalk Coffee and Sno for this amazing opportunity! 💙

This week, several of our students participated in the Special Olympics Summer Games. All of our students placed in various events including co****le, the standing long jump, softball throw, and 50 meter run. Our team had a wonderful time competing and cheering each other on to success!

As part of Whittier Outdoor Week, groups of 8th graders have spent time out at lake Thunderbird each day this week. We gone fishing, visited the nature center, and completed a trust walk.

The Norman Arts Festival is this weekend! Several of our students have been recognized for their artwork in the 6-8th grade competition. Emma Owens received 1st place, Cynthia Cruz Meza got 2nd and Milli Lam received an honorable mention.

This afternoon we welcomed back the graduating class of 2026 that attended Whittier for middle school. They got to read the letters they wrote to themselves in 8th grade and watch their 8th grade video while visiting with their former teachers. We are so proud of all of you!

Today our Spanish 2 classes put their skills to great use. They wrote and illustrated children’s books in Spanish and went to read them to students at Adams Elementary, one of our feeder schools. It was a great day and both 8th graders and 1st graders enjoyed getting to read together.
