This week, Diego Dorantes Sánchez 🇲🇽 was awarded a posthumous honorary degree from the University of Oklahoma. 🎓

An anthropology major and an exquisite researcher, Diego was one of the most active and deeply cherished members of our international community at OU. Our faculty, staff, students, and alumni had the privilege of spending time with Diego’s family this weekend.

While we made space for grief, we also made space to celebrate Diego’s life and all he accomplished during his time at OU. His legacy continues to live on in so many corners of our campus.

Davis UWC Scholars Program representatives visited Oklahoma this week and celebrated OU's Davis Cup win in community with our students, faculty and staff. 🏆

This marks the 11th time in 13 years OU has received the award. A total of 75 Davis UWC Scholars began their studies at OU this fall.

🏆 OU secures the Davis Cup—again!

The University of Oklahoma has been awarded the Davis Cup for the 11th time in 13 years, recognizing its commitment to enrolling Davis United World College Scholars. This fall, 75 new scholars from around the globe joined our campus, further strengthening OU’s vibrant international community.

With 329 Davis UWC Scholars representing more than 100 countries, OU proudly enrolls the highest number of scholars in the nation—and remains the only public university to receive this honor. We’re proud to support global leaders who bring diverse perspectives, academic excellence, and a passion for positive change to Norman. ❤️☝️

Meet Maya Hasawieh from Syria!🇸🇾

Maya is studying MIS and Digital Marketing and chose OU for the strong reputation of the Price College of Business. Her favorite class so far has been MIS, where she learned the basics of data analysis and programming.

One of her best memories at OU is participating in Eve of Nations, where she represented Syria and enjoyed performances from cultures around the world. OU feels like home to her thanks to the support from the International Office, the close-knit UWC and international community.

A big cultural difference she noticed is how non-walkable the city is — something that surprised her ever since she joined OU.

Maya encourages other international students to attend events, meet new people, and take advantage of OU’s many opportunities. Her experience has been shaped by the international community, which helped her find opportunities like the JCPenney Leadership Program, where she is one of only three international students in the 2025 cohort. 🌎❤️

As we return from Thanksgiving break, our students are entering the final weeks of the semester and preparing for upcoming exams. Wishing everyone a strong finish! And for our future international students joining us this spring - we can’t wait to welcome you to campus!❤️☝️
