Meet Heather Mariano, one of our new piano teachers at Imagine 🎹

Heather is pursuing her Master of Music Education in Piano Pedagogy at the University of Oklahoma, and holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from Southern Adventist University.

Before grad school, she spent four years teaching piano and violin in Thailand — even serving as Academic Principal at Peace Music Academy in Khon Kaen. She's also taught and performed across the Philippines, Indonesia, and the U.S.

That international experience shaped how she teaches now: with creativity, encouragement, and a genuine belief that music should be accessible to every student, no matter where they're starting from.

At OU, Heather also works as a Graduate Assistant for Outreach in the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts — and still finds time to teach a private studio right here in Norman.

Hi, if we haven't met yet — we're Imagine Music and Arts. 🎶

We started because Jennifer Walschap believed music lessons shouldn't feel like something you survive until recital season. They should feel like the best part of a kid's week.

So that's what she built.

A place where the teachers are degreed and genuinely love what they do (you can always tell). Where a lesson is passionate, purposeful, and patient — the Imagine Way, in everything we do. Where "I don't get it" is never the student's fault — it just means we haven't found the right way to say it yet.

5+ years later, we've had the honor of teaching 350+ students across the Norman area, and we've watched shy kids become performers, restless kids become focused ones, and "I can't" become "watch this."

We open the doors for students. What happens after that? That part's always up to them.

Plot twist: we're not just the piano people. 🎶

Did you know that we teach more than piano? Guitar, voice, violin, drums — if your kid has an instrument they're curious about, there's a good chance we teach it (and if we don't yet, we probably know someone who does).

Here's the thing about "more than piano": it means your kid gets to find their instrument, not just the one that happens to be in the room. The kid who lights up at drums isn't going to have that same spark forcing through scales on a keyboard — and we'd rather find the fit than force the fit.

Passionate, purposeful, patient — that's the Imagine Way, no matter which instrument your child picks up.
