With over 300,000 members, Phi Alpha Delta is the largest co-ed professional law fraternity in the United States. Founded in 1902 for the purpose of promoting professional competency and achievement within the legal profession, our motto is “service to the student, the school, the profession, and the community.”

Our Chapter was established on May 20, 1912 and named in honor of Supreme Court Justi

ce, John Marshall Harlan, lone dissenter in Plessy v. Ferguson, which upheld Southern segregation statutes. Harlan was the first justice to argue that the Fourteenth Amendment incorporated the Bill of Rights. Harlan served on the Court for 33 years, one of the longest tenures in history.
