Appreciation post for , our outgoing Competitive Sports Graduate Assistant! Earlier this month, she won Outstanding Graduate Assistant for ! She has made our program better for two years and we’re so proud to celebrate her this weekend as she walks for her masters degree. Congratulations to all of our sport club seniors as well! ⭐️🎉

⭐️Executive Board Spotlight⭐ Introducing our Exec. Board Secretary, Nick Wollney!
•
Last but not least we are happy to show off Nick! He is originally from Cary, IL, and has been part of our Sport Club program for the past 4 years. While also serving on the executive board, Nick has been a previous President of Men’s Ultimate and is finishing up this season as a member of the club. The club qualified for Regionals last week!
•
Over the past 4 years, he has also been a part of a business fraternity helping him with his educational development. Nick is finishing up his bachelor’s degree in Marketing Analytics. After graduating, he hopes to find a job in marketing in Chicago.
•
In his free time, Nick enjoys hiking, kayaking, and hanging out with friends. He has enjoyed being part of Men’s Ultimate to develop sport performance skills, meeting new friends, and helping host large home tournaments. Some of his favorite things include Chipotle and How I Met Your Mother.
•
Thank you for all you’ve done for Sport Clubs, Nick! We are excited to watch you thrive in Marketing!

⭐️Executive Board Spotlight⭐ Introducing our Exec. Board Treasurer, Colin Hobart!

While also holding a role on our exec. board, Colin is involved in not one, but TWO club executive boards! He is the treasurer of both the Roudnet and Men’s Volleyball clubs. Being involved with sport clubs over the past 3 years has been super rewarding for Colin as he has helped both clubs be very successful.
•
Colin is from Palo Heights, IL, and is finishing up his junior year here at ISU. Majoring in physics teacher education and minoring in mathematics and chemistry, Colin is helping teach the future generations of high school students. After Colin graduates next year, he hopes to return to his high school alma mater and teach physics.
•
One of his favorite club memories so far has been beating Kentucky at the Men’s Volleyball Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona. Some of his favorite things include sushi and Game of Thornes. While he has been busy with our sport club programs, Colin also is a Physics Teaching Assistant and a Golden Apple Scholar.
•
Thanks for all you’ve done for Sport Clubs, Colin! We have enjoyed working with you in your club career so far. The future is bright!

Sport Club Spotlight Moment!

We love to see our clubs succeed, and Ice Hockey has done just that this season. With roughly 80 members spread across three teams, the club continues to boost its credibility as they break records and set standards. Here are some fun facts about each team in the club!

Division I:
First season to qualify for Nationals, ranked #15 out of 70 teams going into postseason and league runner-up

MCH All-League 1st Team - Tony Campise
MCH All-League 2nd Team - Trevor Hilt, Mitchell Oberlag, Brendan Donovan

Division II:
Regional ranking 20th out of 51 in the Central Region

MACHA All-Conference 1st Team - Alex Matsas, Andrew Meyer
MACHA All-Conference 2nd Team - Josh Gilbert, Coach Michael Hernbrott
A season sweep over the University of Illinois-UC
Defeated Bradley 3-2 to end their season in playoffs

Division III:
The inaugural season in MACHA Silver Divison
Finished the season ranked 40th out of 88 teams
A season sweep against Olivet Nazarene 4-0, goal differential of 39-13
A season sweep against Lake Superior State 2-0, goal differential of 13-0

Want to donate to Sport Clubs during Birds Give Back on February 23rd but aren’t sure what they are? Here’s 3 facts to note:
•
♦️ Our Leadership Academy hosts an annual conference for club leaders, monthly Leadership Nights, allocation hearings, and an end-of-year banquet for members. These opportunities allow for our members to improve leadership, communication, budgeting, and time management skills they can use after graduation.
♦️ All 27 clubs are independently run by current ISU students. Each club has an executive board to lead teams every year.
♦️ Clubs practice multiple times per week and compete in at least 3 events each year in Illinois and across the region and nation. Many teams qualify for postseason and national tournaments.

⭐️Executive Board Spotlight⭐ Please say hi to our Exec. Board Vice President, Laura Kluge!

Laura is the former president and current Women’s Water Polo Club member. She has been part of our sport club program for 4 years. Along with boosting the club to victory over the past few years, she inspires the younger generation by teaching swim lessons at a local business in Bloomington-Normal.
•
We have enjoyed having Laura as part of the program over the years. She has enjoyed fabulous weekends with her teammates, traveling on the road to tournaments and playing fiercely in the conference tournament in 2022. Laura is originally from Aurora, Illinois, and is currently completing her degree in Special Education. After graduation, she hopes to get back in the classroom and teach young students. In her free time, she enjoys cooking/baking and spending time with family, friends, and teammates.
