Last week our Structural Geology (GEO 295) class traveled to Baraboo, Wisconsin! While there our students gained skills in field mapping and observing structural features in the field! They specifically got to observe rocks of the Baraboo Syncline. Thank you to our Powell Fund donors for donating and allowing our students to have opportunities like this!!

Last weekend, our Sedimentology Class (GEO 295) traveled to areas throughout Missouri and Iowa and got the opportunity to observe sedimentary geology in the field! Students were able to see rocks from Ordovician to Pennsylvanian in age and gain skills in field work! Thank you to Powell Fund and all of its generous donors for making it possible for our students to get opportunities like this!!

It’s colloquium Friday! Today 12 pm (instead of our normal 3 pm time) in Felmley 434 (typo on poster) Liam Eades will be presenting his talk: “From Rocks to Decisions: What an Exploration/Economic Geologist Actually Does for a Living”. Lunch will be provided! We hope to see you there!!

Recently students enrolled in GEO 306a27: Regional Geology of Lake Superior Field Class went on the Lake Superior Precambrian Geology field trip! This was a great opportunity to look at rocks of the synorogenic Wolf River Batholith and the Mid-Continent Rift! Thank you to the Powell fund and all of its generous donors that allow for trips like this to be possible!!

Tomorrow, Friday 9/25, we will be having colloquium at 3 pm in Moulton Hall 208! Dr. Liangcheng Yang from the Department of Health Sciences will present: “Recovering Energy and Nutrients from Bioresources through Anaerobic Digestion for a Circular and Sustainable Environment.” We hope to see you there!
