The Illinois State Forensics Union team members have reached the last day of the National Forensics Association tournament! Our Red Birds have worked tirelessly since Thursday showcasing their hard work from this year.

We’ve had many students and events advance, but we’d like to give a shout out to our National Semi-Finalists!

The Illinois State University Forensics Union is gearing up for day two of the National Forensics Association National Tournament! Let’s finish up our Debate Recap!

Sophomore Emily Mrowca received an invitation to join 13 other students from around the country to participate in the Finegold Debates at Pittsburgh University. The debate is held annually in honor of Marcella L. Finegold. She was a graduate of Pitt's College of Arts and Sciences in 1937 and debated with the William Pitt Debating Union. This year's topic was academic freedom.

Finally, the debate team competed in the last invitational tournament of the 25-26 season, the I-70 Cup, where Novice Brady Seelbach placed 2nd overall in the JV division! The debate team now turns to NFA-LD Nationals prep and looks forward to ending the season at Tennessee State in April.

The Illinois State University Forensics Union is on the way to the National Forensics Association National Tournament! We have multiple debaters competing, so let’s catch up with all their amazing accomplishments over this year!

First, 40 competitors from 14 different schools gathered to compete virtually in the 2025 Marshall Memorial Tournament.
Brady Seelbach (true novice): semi-finalist and 3rd place speaker in novice and qualled to NFA
Han Nguyen: 5th place speaker in JV

The Big Tent Online tournament was a comprehensive tournament hosted by Missouri State University.
Han Nguyen: 1st JV Speaker, JV Semi-Finalist, Emily Mrowca: 5th JV Speaker and a JV Semi-Finalist!

Next, ISU Debate traveled to Las Vegas, NV to compete in the Rebel Debate tournament. 28 students from across the country gathered to debate about scientific exploration and military presence in the Arctic. Sophomore Emily Mrowca broke to elimination rounds and Jazmin Medina held her own in the JV division as a true novice!
