Illinois State University CSD Department Offering a strong academic experience to students interested in SLP and AUD.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers one of the most comprehensive undergraduate programs in the state, one of the largest SLP graduate programs in the country, and a fully accredited AuD program. We embrace collaborating with other departments within CAS and other colleges, participating in service learning activities, strengthening our students’ civic engagement, and supporting faculty and student research. We take pride in our excellence in teaching and seek to maintain our emphasis on ensuring that each student in our department receives a quality education. Our clinic mirrors our academic programs in terms of excellence and strength and is a vital and critical component of our programs; this is the training ground for our student clinicians. We offer a wide range of speech-language pathology and audiology services to clients of every age and provide our students with an excellent foundation of clinical knowledge and skills.

🧠Celebrating Dr. Harvey’s research!

Congratulations to Dr. Jennine Harvey on her recent publication in the International Journal of Telerehabilitation!🎉

Harvey and her colleagues explored an exciting new possibility for speech-language pathology. They used immersive virtual reality to deliver Semantic Feature Analysis, an evidence-based approach used to support communication skills.

The study included adults with communication disorders as well as adults experiencing typical cognitive aging. Participants completed language and cognitive tasks in a fully immersive virtual reality environment designed to simulate a kitchen.

We’re proud to celebrate Dr. Harvey’s innovative research and her contributions to the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Illinois State University! ❤️

This past Friday, six SLP graduate students who provide specialized voice services joined Mrs. Larkin at the Transgender Resource Fair to present clinical materials and deliver two sessions detailing the gender-affirming voice and communication supports available through the ISU Speech & Hearing Clinic. The outreach reinforced partnerships with community organizations and increased awareness among students and attendees of these important resources. Thank you to the SLP graduate students and Mrs. Larkin for making this outreach possible. 🗣️❤️

Congratulations to Dr. Ciera Lorio and her team on their recent article in the Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research.

They explored how caregivers and young children engage during shared book reading and how different types of books shape infants’ and toddlers’ gestures, single words, and multi-word utterances.
