It feels like forever ago, but Move-In started one week ago.

For many of our students and families, Move-In Day wasn't exactly the picture-perfect welcome they had imagined. Instead of sunny skies and smooth sidewalks, they were met with severe storms, heavy rain, delays, and a lot of uncertainty.

What many families may not have seen through the rain were the hundreds of people working behind the scenes to keep Move-In moving forward.

From our Housing staff and volunteer Curb Birds carrying belongings through downpours, to Illinois State University Police Department and Safe Redbirds directing traffic, Resident Assistants helping families navigate the buildings, and Housing employees responding to storm damage while answering questions and calming concerns, countless people stepped up to make sure our newest Redbirds felt welcomed and supported.

Over the past week, we've seen so many messages from students and families praising the kindness, patience, and dedication of the people who helped them during one of the most memorable and challenging Move-In weeks we've experienced.

To everyone who helped, thank you. Your hard work, flexibility, and commitment turned a day that could have been defined by the weather into one defined by community.

One week later, we're still grateful. And we're proud of the way the Redbird community came together when it mattered most.

Move-In may be over, but the work of building community is just getting started.

Waiting on an Amazon order? Wondering where your Target package went? Not sure how mail works at Cardinal Court?

You're not alone. At the start of each semester, we receive lots of questions about mail and package delivery. That's why we've put together a quick guide to help you understand the process.

• Every student receives a mailbox in their residence hall or on-campus apartment.

• When a package arrives and has been processed by University Housing Services, you'll receive an email notification letting you know it's ready for pickup from your areas mail room.

• If a carrier such as Amazon, UPS, FedEx, or USPS marks your package as "delivered," that does not always mean it is immediately available for pickup. Packages must first be received and processed before notification emails are sent.

• Students living in Cardinal Court should remember to regularly check their mailbox and pick up packages from the Community Center.

As we begin the semester, mailrooms experience a high volume of deliveries. We appreciate your patience while our team works to process packages as quickly as possible.

The best way to know your package is ready? Watch your Illinois State email inbox for your pickup notification.

Need something fixed in your room or on-campus apartment?

For maintenance issues in the residence halls and on-campus apartments, submitting a work order is the fastest way to get help.

Not sure if it's an emergency?

Non-emergency issues include things like a dripping faucet, a burnt-out light bulb, loose furniture, or a clogged sink.

Emergency issues include situations that could cause injury, major property damage, or impact your safety, such as flooding, loss of heat during cold weather, electrical hazards, or a lock that won't secure.

When in doubt, contact your front desk for assistance.
