Do you know someone in Livingston County who would like to improve their English language skills? Great news! We are starting an English as a Second Language class at the Heartland Pontiac campus (211 E. Madison St., second floor). Classes meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:20 pm.

Students who are interested should attend an enrollment session on one of the following dates:

August 24, 2026
September 14, 2026
October 5, 2026
October 26, 2026
November 16, 2026

Heartland Community College is looking for Adult Education instructors to teach GED prep classes. This is a part-time, temporary job starting in the fall 2026 semester. It’s a perfect option for retirees, parents wanting to work while kids are in school, or anyone needing some extra income. Pay starts at $29.50/instructional hour.
We are looking for instructors for the following classes:
• GED prep class at the Junction in Bloomington—Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am-12 pm. This instructor would teach reading, writing, science, social studies, and math.
• GED Math prep class at the HCC Normal Campus—Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 am-12:30 pm. This instructor would only teach math.
• GED prep class at the HCC Pontiac Campus—Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:30 pm. This instructor would teach reading, writing, science, social studies, and math.

The Adult Education staff is working hard to wrap up the semester and get ready for summer AELP, but we like to have some fun too! Meet Lucy, our new office assistant. Lucy is happy when everyone does their intake paperwork, takes their test, and comes to orientation. Lucy is sad when they don't.

As a reminder, summer AELP starts June 1, and fall classes for HSE/FESL start August 3. Not sure if you are registered? Contact the office.
